WUTAnyone going to the Oxbow Maple Tasting event on Sunday?
WUTAnyone going to the Oxbow Maple Tasting event on Sunday?
Wanted to post a few recommendations that hit multiple spots in one:
Industrial Park (Allagash -> Bissell Brothers -> Foundation -> Austin Street)
Just awesome. Free tour and/or free tasters at Allagash, then hang out across the street at the 3 new guys on the block. Pretty much always a food truck at one of them. Geary's and New England Distilling are also out here.
East Bayside Crawl (Rising Tide -> Maine Craft Distilling -> Bunker Brewing)
Really fun Friday or Saturday plan. All are a short walking distance from each other. You can also add in Urban Farm Fermentory for ciders (just down the street from Bunker) or walk about 10 minutes to get to Maine Mead Works and the Oxbow Tasting room
North of Portland (Ebenezer's Pub -> Oxbow -> Marshall Wharf)
Stop in for lunch at Ebenezer's Pub before heading to Oxbow for samples and growlers. Once you've had your fill, continue up to Marshall Wharf for dinner. I would recommend staying the night up in Belfast vs. making the 2 hour trip back to Portland
South of Portland (Barreled Souls -> Banded Horn -> Palace Diner)
Technically only two breweries, but definitely an awesome time. Palace Diner is very unassuming, but take my word for it - the place is legit (chef used to work at Hugo's). Add-ons for this would be Run of the Mill (decent food, decent beer) and Element's Coffee Shop (books, coffee and beer in the same spot)
Portsmouth
Downtown - Portsmouth Brewery, Earth Eagle
Just outside of town - Smuttynose, Red Hook
15-20 minutes away - Deciduous Brewing, Throwback Brewery
There are also two "beer buses" that take you to breweries in Portland:

(sorry, I haven't tried either)
Glad they were helpful!Planning to make the drive up during a quick tour of the Northeast in early June and your posts have been phenomenally helpful. It's on our must stop list now. Thanks so much for all of the info.
Yeah, I kinda half-assed the restaurant section. It could be it's own separate post, honestly. So much good food. After 2 days in Boston, Apr 15-17 staying at Morrill Mansion, and while there.... not sure what the plan is. Excited though! Working on a game plan and Brez, your posts are fantastic! Heard a great meal is Street & Co. This should be a great weekend, hopefully get most of my itinerary done over the weekend.
Glad they were helpful!
FYI since Bissell is such a draw now, I'll mention that by the time you're visiting, they'll be in their new spot. Not far away (less than 15 minutes) but will be a lot bigger which is nice.
Haven't seen anything about the new spot other than it should be opening late May-early June.Do know if the new bissel spot will be open on Sundays. Gonna be up end of June. Sunday-tuesday in Maine.

So I know I juuuuuust said they'd be in the new spot in June... but after talking to someone today, seems like it'll be July at the earliest. For the best - getting the full Industrial Park experience is awesome.Do know if the new bissel spot will be open on Sundays. Gonna be up end of June. Sunday-tuesday in Maine.

I drank mostly cans when I was ther. Also brought a to go coffee cup with lid I poured bottles into. I took a cooler with me each day and no one bothered me.Is it legal to drink a beer on the beach in Maine. Is it a problem or just gotta solo cup or a no go at all.

Beaches should have a sign; I think most don't allow it. I know Old Orchard is a no-no... I've even had a cooler checked before (my fault for drawing attention to it, but still). As others suggested, discretely add to a coffee cup and you should be fine.Is it legal to drink a beer on the beach in Maine. Is it a problem or just gotta solo cup or a no go at all.

Pre-filled runs of capped 750ml bottles, filled at kegging time. Stored cold. Rotating beers will be offered from the draft options currently available. Non-returnable, $8 for FPA. Eventually phasing out growlers in Portland and switching to these only, while doing growlers only in Newcastle. Still a little ways away from that happening though. Carb was perfect on my FPA bottles.
