My friend and I were brewing the other day when we started talking about heating elements and heatsticks. He wondered if a Pond De-Icer or a Stock Tank De-Icer would be able to bring 6 or 7 gallons of wort up to a boil. Has anyone had any experience using a De-Icer? They seem inexpensive and would be great if you could using them brewing.

Since they're meant to be used in animal's drinking water, I don't think they bring the temp up to boiling. I haven't used one, so I can't say for sure though.
