The black ABS version of the gun is quite a bit cheaper. I think Pluto guns are noticeably better than picnic taps, but that is a pretty low bar to top (or tap).

I have one of the ABS versions, it does just fine for me. I've pulled it apart and cleaned it a few times and only had it leak once when I didn't get everything tightened back up. Picnic taps always tended to leak a little bit in my usage.

Is the ABS version stainless steel on the inside? Or does beer come in contact with the plastic?

I've been using a couple of the ABS ones for a few months now. I believe they advertise that the internals of these are stainless steel. They've been working well for me.

If you look down the faucet end, does it look like the stainless reaches the tip? This would be a good hint, I think.

My main concern is being able to hook one of these up and leave it attached to a keg for a while. I tend to drink less during the week.

nope, the plastic coating continues into the inside of the tip. The plunger itself is stainless and I assume what is under the plastic coating is also stainless (more for durability I guess), but of course I can't tell. The part that connects to my beer line (duo tight in my case) is also stainless. I leave mine hooked up to my kegs all the time, which turns into about 6-8 weeks. I certainly haven't tasted anything weird.

I have the plastic ones. I leave them hooked up all the time. I have shutoffs on the liquid line that I close when I am done to deter accidental leaks.
