Has anybody used their plate chiller in a HERMS system? It would take two pumps, which I have. I suppose you would lose some heat in the process, but it would not require a coil in the HLT.

I've thought about that also. One concern I had is the debris that would be circulated through the chiller/heater. I read about people worrying about clogging up their plate chiller. I've never had that trouble, but I often have a difficult time getting my chiller clean enough to flow clear after using it as a chiller.

Seems like it should be a decent heat exchanger though.

I'm sure it could work, but what would the advantages be? The thermal mass of the water in the HLT makes maintaining temps easy, and isn't something I'd want to lose without some other significant gain.
