Anyone have a good source or solution for plastic boxes to hold cases of home brew while they condition in the bottle? I used some old cardboard beer boxes, but worry about them letting go when I go to move them after a couple of weeks.
Any ideas welcome.

-very inexpensive and will last forever

What kind of beer boxes are you using? I use 12'r & case boxes from craft beers. Leinenkugel's has strong boxes that come with separators. Magic hat 12'r boxes are good too. Bud & Labatt's case boxes are very sturdy as well. I've been using them for nearly 4 years now, & every last one of them are in like-new condition. :mug:

I always just put my homebrew in 6-pack holders and put those inside plastic storage bins. The bins are stackable and fit perfectly in my closet. Simple.

Also diaper boxes are very sturdy and come in useful for much of my home brew storage needs.

I do the same with 6 packs stored in plastic storage containers. Easy, and it keeps them clean.

The 12 pack boxes I use are craft ones that have multiple flaps to close the top & are corrugated cardboard, rather than paste board like BMC's use. The case boxes are sturdier yet & close at the top as well. So they stay clean in the boxes & stack easily. Besides being cheaper.

There are plastic crates made especially for beer bottles. Looked at them once, I think they were $26 apiece.
I tape up 6-pack carriers to reuse. Had the bottom go out of these once. Four hours in emergency room getting my leg sewed up.
I strengthen cases with heavy duty cardboard crimped to bend around the bottom and ends for extra security. Most of these cases are from New Glarus. I use packaging tape for Leinenkugel's 12-packs just for enhancing security.

The only time I had trouble with Leinenkugel boxes is when I tried to lift them with one had when the bottles were full. Then just the finger holes ripped. But the rest of them are still intact & strong. Only had the pasteboard ones break.
And are you talking about those boxes that look like plasticized cardboard? I saw those one...

This is a link to the product. Looks like they are no longer available.

milk crates

I will give a +1 to the wooden crate diagram someone posted upthread, it comes from this thread and has TONS of information, including how to make similar crates for various size bottles:

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f256/how-make-beer-crate-12oz-beer-bottles-318788/

BUT, Rivenin has probably hit on the easiest solution, particularly if you're using standard 12oz longnecks and are set on a PLASTIC crate. The old-school milk crates (craigslist is your friend), or newer ones made to the same size specification, are great because they'll hold 25 longnecks in a 5x5 pattern. So, just leave one out and you have a full case per box. NOTE: you want the ones that measure 13"w x 13"d x 10.5"t. Here's a link to some I got from Amazon and have been very happy with:

Search for the Buddeez milk crates and you'll get a bunch of different color options, with different prices for each. At the time, I found the brown ones to be cheapest (hot pink was the same cost, but hell no). Decide for yourself if $9 each delivered to your door (I'm a Prime member, love that stuff) is worth it.

I made a couple of the wooden boxes, and while I think they turned out awesome, I am also a fan of using milk crates.

McDonald's fry boxes are really strong, good for moving as well. Tough to beat free. I use dairy crates
