Hey guys. Some friends and I have some vacation time coming up in a month or so, and we've decided we want to do a brewery tour. We live in New England, but we've got a week in June to drive from brewery to brewery. I'm interested in suggestions in what breweries I should visit. I'd like to use it as a learning experience regarding my own home brewing, and to try out some new commercial brews. Any suggestions?

I think the Brooklyn brewery gives tours, maybe the sam adams brewery and a lot of small breweries and brewpubs, you could also look for some distilleries for an interesting tour.

I dunno exactly where your vacation is headed to, but when I was in Cooperstown I did the Ommegang tour. That was a good one.

Which direction were you planning on going? There is a fine selection in any direction, but some insight on where you may be headed would be helpful.:)

Probably we're going west. My fater actually suggested the Ommegang brewery in Cooperstown, so that's probably on the list. We've got a full week to go from place to place, so pretty much anything goes, though I don't think we'd go any further west than western PA or maybe Ohio, and we plan to loop back around to end in Boston.

I have this great book I got for christmas. It is about all of the breweries in New England. I cant remember the name so I can get that to ya when I get home. But, there is Burlington, VT which has a bunch, then Woodstock brewery in Woodstock, NH along with Tuckerman in Conway. Red Hook in Portsmouth and Harpoon in VT and MA.

I get the name of the book, or else Ill sit here all day listing them and day dreaming and not getting anything done.

I just picked up a bottle of Ommegang Dubbel last night, haven't tried it yet, but should be good!

Come to Colorado.
WE have a mess of breweries....Including Butwiper....um....Budweiser (Ft. Collins) and Coors (Golden). These beers may not be the greatest by my standards, but they are what they are. And if you've never seen a 25,000 gallon boil pot...it's impressive. But better than that, within a 80 mile radius of Denver you have the Tommy Knocker brewery in Idaho Springs, New Belgium brewery in Ft. Collins, Left Hand Brewing in Loveland, Ft. Collins Brewery in Ft, Collins... and that is just the handful that I have on the top of my pointy little head. I am sure you could come up with 10 or 12 more if you try.

Thanks, but that's a bit further afield than we wanted to go. Also, if I wanted to visit an Bud brewery I could go to the one nearby in Merrimack NH. I've done that tour though.

There are several in this state we could do, but this vacation is primarily intended to be a road trip. I'm adding the Ommegang brewey to the list, and we'll probably head up to Magic Hat in VT, but I'm still taking suggestions.

That IS cool!

But it missed a good one: McNeill's, in Brattleboro VT. (EDIT: whoops, no it didn't...just listed it as a brewpub, not a brewery. Which is true, though it's called McNeill's Brewery)

Aaah, but he is building a new brewery so look for it to be on there as a Brewery as well soon.

Spend your time in portland ME there are quite a few breweries up there and the town is great during the summer, nice food maine lobster etc.
