Seems a little steep for a beer aged in a giant foeder but I guess given the prices of everything else nowadays it's not outrageous

Maybe I'm just comparing to the initial offering of BA mouflan which, if I recall correctly, was way higher right? $12 for a 375 of a limited wild beer is pretty average I feel. Now if it sucks, I might change my tune.

Thanks to everyone for their hospitality while in Pittsburgh! Great time and beers and even got to meet uvm2003 randomly. BG is still pumping out great beer. I wish I had time to fit in more, but with kids it makes it difficult. Eventually I'll make it to the south hills.

Best hefe....nah. Very solid, yes. Shoshin was a big miss. Watery blah. After an evaluation of all the beers they have on tap Braddocks and Garden Party are the two best by far. They are two great beers. The others fall in the solid/drinkable category.

Yep I enjoyed the tweaks to CPA quite a bit more than the last time I had it.

Garden Party is an amazing Cucumber beer. It tastes close to what CCB Cucumber Saison was (back in the day) but fresher and cleaner with great, natural cucumber flavor

Funny, I found Shoshin to be easy drinking and nice work with only german hops. Akamai and CPA are solid for me, but might be different for you.

Yeah they are solid. But having Akamai next to Braddocks made me appreciate it less. Braddocks is a lot more juicy and dynamic imho.

I didn't have Mammoth, but I prefer Akamai to Albatross. Albatross had a sort of harshness for me that Akamai doesn't have. I'm not beer-smart enough to describe what it was, but I just didn't enjoy it quite as much.

I was pretty damn happy with Shoshin. Nice, crisp, crushable. Didn't particularly think it was thin or watery. Lemonade 2000 wasn't my favorite, but didn't dislike it at all. My memory for smell/taste is ****, but I think I liked Regs more last year. I think it nailed the estery/banana taste, but the texture wasn't as full as I thought I remembered. Hadn't had CPA in some time, but now having had it not too long after Momo, I definitely prefer Momo for my tastes. I think the Spring season DIPAs were my favorite in that category, both Albatross and Foshomo for different reasons. I definitely liked Albatross more than Akamai. The last 2 single IPA one-offs, G-Funk and Trainwreck were both awesome. Mr. Automatic was a slightly different take on the "robust" porter that I enjoyed a lot. Not looking forward to summer ending, but I am looking forward to Mexican Coffee. Lastly my bottle of Citra Saison was everything I could want in a modern saison. Awesome Prototypes. All in all, very thankful to have these guys in our backyard.

Anyone hit up the Roundabout event at Bayardstown? Really interested by all the beers, but it was just me & DeuceDropSoup & there was no way we were not going swimming yesterday.

I think Garden Party and White Sky are the only 2 BG regulars I haven't tried (doubt I will either since neither sound like my speed). I do agree with Troy to an extent about General Braddocks. I think it's overlooked by their rotating releases when often times, I think it's a better beer. It's not my favorite from them (CPA still has that crown) but I do think it's one of their better ones. Mr. Automatic and Straight Up Regs fall right in the "very good for what they are" category. Not styles that have people lining up around the block or that line up with my preferences but just all around good beers. The pale lager (name escapes me atm) they did a while back is in the same category.

I don't really find maple and cacao to be complimentary flavors, and I'm fairly over peppers in beer. Hard pass for me on that one.

Outside of Rare and regular BCBS, I thought the other variants from last year's lineup ranged from alright to just plain bad. Hopefully the beers this year fare better. Definitely one of the bigger disappointments for me beer-wise, as I'm one of the biggest Bourbon County fans out there.

Also wanted to echo what PSUMike said. Maple Rye sounds delicious.

Really hoping King Henry 2.0 is a thing

This past weekend I had a beer buddy in town from MI. He is a close friend and a great brewery to boot. It was interesting to hear his outside perspective on the various breweries, eateries and other establishments which I thought I would share.

First off he gave out some great praise to Beerwanderer and his selection at GEMDSH, including his Belgian section (which goes vastly under appreciated from the likes of me). He ended up dropping around $150 on beers there and walked away very happy.

His Rankings of Brewing/Drinking establishments went as follows:

1. Arsenal Cider House - Loved the selection and flavor profiles. Even ended up ordering Snow Bound for his first drink at FH and Blueberry as his only drink at Carson St. Deli.
2. Draai Laag - Really enjoyed what they have going on. Loved Simon Girty and Cru and ended up snagging bottles of Simon Giry and Areus
3. Brew Gentlemen - Loves Braddocks. Ended up snagging 9 howlers for his beer buddies back home. The reason this is above Voodoo is because of his obsession with Braddocks.
4. Voodoo - Loved a lot of beers here (Vandalay, CCC, Quadfather in Cab Sauv. barrels, Cow Bell). This would be above BG normally because of all the different styles that they do well but in the end, Braddocks wins out.
5. Fat Heads - WINGS and a great beer selction. Nuff said
6. Full Pint - Enjoyed the berliners (they still make great berliners). On the flip side, the Kilt 'Em All was the most hated beer of the weekend. Normally I would say "least favorite" but this beer was highly offensive and really awful.
7. Roundabout - Said that everything is made really well (expected) and enjoyed Pacific Ring but felt that most of it was easy and unassuming.
8. East End - We stopped at the Strip Disctrict location and while we all enjoyed the build out, the beer (outside of moonstomp) was not well received. He was appaled at the price of BA Grat
9. Grist House - Universally panned by all. They had some really bad beer on tap and short (not in height), rude servers, among other issues. He was kinda mad that we brought him here. If it weren't for all of the cute dogs/puppies outside, he would have been livid.

Anyway he will be going back singing the praises of General Braddocks, Everyday Noodles, Draai Laag, Independent Bar & Hidden Harbor, FH Wings, our beautiful buildings around town and general positive beer culture. Conversely he will have some not so kind words for our messed up road systems, bad drivers, Primanti Brothers and Grist House.

We told him several times not to go. I think the place sucks but he fell trap to the outside "you have to go" pressure. We sat at East End while he at half his sandwich. He looked up at us and said "this is flavorless and disgusting", then proceeded to leave the other half uneaten on the table.

Edit: I feel like there is some outside covert ops advertising that is going on to keep that place relevant in the eyes of so many. I also feel that as this city becomes more and more of a food destination (like its current path), places like Primantis will become forgotten (woo hoo).

Primanti's is the budweiser of food. Although it deserves to, it will never go away.

I'm in this boat. Arsenal is definitely doing some awesome stuff...but I just don't gravitate toward it as often as some others.
