Eesh. So a bunch of people raced out to snag a beer they never tried, only to have it taste of "no barrel character". I wonder if there will even be a line for the next release.

I've not tried the beer yet, but my willingness to go and give them a shot came from several factors. I had always wanted to check them out but had never been, it's only about 10 minutes from my house and it was a style I really enjoy.

If not for all of those factors, I likely wouldn't have bothered and probably won't again if the product is as it's been described so far.

That seems like a pretty fair assessment. I think they are riding with the local Millvale crowd pretty well.

I have been there a handful of times and while it is a neat place the beer is just not there and from my standpoint, not getting better. The ambiance of a building isn't enough to keep me going back. This city has plenty of neat buildings that serve better drinks.

How was everyone's PCBW? ****** because there was nothing going on that wasn't a horrific embarrassment? Mine too! Maybe next year the organizers will change the name to POSCBW before jumping off the Beer Barge with a quarter of Nutella lambic collab tied to their waists.

Is this an inside joke that I am missing?

I missed most of the week because of health related issues and then decided I didn't want to partake in any of the weekend events. Bummed I missed BoB, that's about it.

No different than any other week. I ask about and comment on a variety events here on TB, ultimately go to none...somehow get lucky enough to stumble upon a new beer (which for PCBW happens to be a collab)...

If I could have made it to one single event, it most certainly would have been the Apis Review Reading thingy...any reviews on that or maybe even a video that someone took? Was it as funny as it sounded like it was going to be?

I wish I'd gotten video. It was pretty awesome. There wasn't quite the turnout I'd hoped from the brewer side, but I'm sure they were pulled in a lot of different directions. ChurchBrewCrew read, folks from Rock Bottom, Spoonwood, Draai Laag, East End, ShuBrew, Eleventh Hour.

I did make a random observation this weekend. Keep in mind that I have experienced a lot of bad driving across lots of states but this one was a new one to me. Two separate times this weekend I had people who were driving with a full tire over in the line, in my lane (city streets) and while I was patient with them they kept driving that way so I sounded my horn with a short honk. They repay my notification with a middle finger. So, I got the middle finger because they don't know how to drive? Explain this to me.

Oh and beer wise, had a Anchor Liberty Ale over the weekend. Damn it is a refreshing beer that would be a perfect (if it was in a can) beer to take to the beach or park to play bocce.

I never understood why PBW doesn't end with one of the large beer fests that happen. You could easily have all the collab beers there to be judged and maybe have a voted winner? You could have events all week building to the main event.

Yeah...I agree there needs to be at least one cohesive "summarizing" flagship event...either to kick it off or end it. Maybe there is one and I just don't know of it. If there was one where all the collab beers stood side by side and maybe some other new beers and/or regular beers from each lineup, etc...I'd probably make that an annual event that I attended.

There's Meet the Brewers at Rivertowne North Shore. Brewers show up & all the collabs are tapped, along with other locals.

I think it's just more fun to sort of have a festival feeling to it. Maybe see if you can close down a street near a brewery or beer bar that could sponsor it? In Rochester they do that and have all the local breweries brew a special beer for that week besides collabs to be judged.

There was a kickoff event at Rock Bottom where I believe they add most of the collabs too.

When the Real Ale Fest was in planning, they were trying to have it on the Clemente Bridge. That turned out to be a near-impossibility.

I vaguely remember this being talked about. Forget what the reason is that it never materialized? Just have it on a day there is a home game and the bridge is already closed, but I guess that would be somewhat hard to police who is attending the event, and who just wants to go to the game.

Is this a brewery only or will that see distribution?

No knowledge. Generally, they do throw a few cases out to local accounts but it's usually just easier to drive to Athens then try to find a store who got some and will last long enough. Their bottle releases usually last at least 2 weeks at the brewery in my experience.
