YES!!

EDIT: never mind....Speyside Scotch barrels...new reaction: meh

I love these dinners, they can be pricey but i think it's worth it, especially when the brewer is there and the chef comes out and you get to pick their brains about stuff. Walked out with a belly full and a couple cool pint glasses, can't complain.

So far the best beer pairing dinners have been at House of 1000 Beers. Ho1kb usually has a bunch of rare/barreled options from the brewery, a representative of some sort from the brewery (though often it is the local wholesaler rep with probably a pile of brewery t-shirts in their van), some shwag, and an insane 5 course meal by Chef Brian that is dessert for course 4 and 5.

I've been to a lot of pairings around town and you would be hard pressed to find that level of food with that level of beer for that price anywhere around Pittsburgh.

Disclaimer: I did their website and tap list, so I'm biased, but I'm still right.

What the **** are you gonna do now? Retire from the game? Dibs on your cellar...

Nah. Sights are set on Ephraim now with Abner being a close second and probably Assassin rounding out my top 3. And outside of a handful of bottles, my "cellar" isn't that impressive. And on that note, you just reminded me that I need to update my spreadsheet.

FINALLY. The 3 year hunt is over. And honestly, it is as good as advertised. For that style of hoppy beer, I only think Hill Farmstead is better than Lawsons and it's certainly not a blow out. Those hippies up north know their ****.
It is delicious no doubt but for what it takes to acquire it SoS wins all day every day.

Agree that they are mostly pricey and enjoyable. Think this is the first year Fat Heads isn't doing one (at their place) for PCBW, (but they are brunching it up Sunday). Presence of brewer and chef do deepen the experience and make the ticket price more palatable (up to a point). Find it to be more attractive when the offerings are a departure from the norm (dishes and beers not normally available at said place).

Little tid bit of cool info for ya that you might not be hip to, Matt Brophy, the brewmaster at flying dog, was born in squirrel hill and lived there until he was 13 years old. He told me so last night. Small friggin world

I'm sold, i'll have to check one of these out for sure

I probably agree with that. Sip is criminally overlooked.

Wasn't SoS one of the most sought after beers a year or two ago? I think in the "keeping up with the trend" ipa world it is still highly regarded. The same thing will happen to the NE ipas when the next fad comes around.

Brew Gentlemen just sent out their weekly e-blast, iterating their plan to donate $1 from every beer sold to NORML Pittsburgh. They'll also be tapping MOMO & Panzerfaust, a new Kolsch(-style ale), the proceeds from which I'm presuming will be donated to this deserving organization:

Yes it was the TH a couple of years ago when I got into beer.

Anybody know what the **** is going on with Facebook trading groups?
Sounds like they're shutting down any trading/sales groups. Someone on the Pittsburgh Craft Beer group said yesterday that FB was closing all groups with "beer" in the name, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

When it was first released, it was but then it sort of took a backseat behind the next flavor of the month. Same thing with Second Fiddle which is one of the best out there.

What's funny is that I was looking through some old BIF threads on BA a week ago (was trying to find the Blind BIF I did years and years ago), and someone sent a Tree House beer as a blind beer, and no one knew what it was. The guy who sent it pretty much said something like "it's similar to Vermont IPAs but much easier to get. Hopefully it stays that way"

Poor, unfortunate soul.

Yeah I don't so much think that SoS is overlooked, just that the shadow cast from the Heady hype sometimes causes people to overlook it. Second Fiddle is probably overlooked even more, and it's pretty great. Not saying Heady is nothing but hype, it's a great beer.

FB has done similar policing in 2016--shutting down groups that sell firearms and marijuana dispensary pages, without providing (to my knowledge) specific reasoning, but citing "community standards" policies. They have noted that they don't actively police (no keyword filtering algorithms, etc.) the site for potentially prohibited sales, but instead respond to "user reports."

While coincidence isn't correlation, local frustration over MBP sales on FB surely isn't the only instance of beer mule profiteering--perhaps the culmination of the culture has drawn FB attention (this is personal conjecture, not doubt) and they starting deleting. Beer groups that don't involve selling alcohol seem to be unaffected to date.

Yeah I believe Strongwater was one of the first to get shut down, which is a shame, because that group provided endless entertainment. A bunch of the other groups changed their names to not have beer in the title. I had a feeling this was going to happen sooner or later though.
