If by "expectations" you mean "****-iness" then I'd agree with you. Not sure what you're looking for in a quality experience, but having strangers post gifs to rag on you isn't my definition of that.

Quality of output is directly proportional to input. Here is a gif to illustrate.

One of my bourbon goals is to do the whole 4 roses ten recipe tasting. Definitely never buying one in PA though.

Likewise. I contemplated buying one of FWGS ones once on here when guys were putting together those swaps.

I think I've seen them for as low as $50 in other states. Booze is so cheap in Chicago. Look at the binnys weekly sale flyers if you really wanna hate Pennsylvania any more.

Maybe a buck or two on "shelfies", some of the distilleries will have the same limited bottles available here. Everything is definitely more geared towards the casual crowd. If anything you'll find some lower priced steals at the glorious various Kentucky liquor mart's.

It's a great trip though, did it last Summer. I'm sure you have an itinerary already but I can at least give you a heads up as to what to look forward to.

I'm going down to Louisville for a bachelor party in March. How much cheaper will things be down there than up here?

That was my advice - liquor stores - liquor barn, private shops, even total wine (only one there as of now)... if you time it right, you can get some solid bottles that you’ll never see down here.

And yes, Stigs, I liked your OG post and the double post. I owe you.

Hello fellow human beings living in somewhat the same area as me. I would like to request some recommendations on any barleywines that you may have had recently. Looking for anything new(ish) whether it be locals or just distributed around here. Thank you for reading my post and I truly appreciate our internet anonymous friendship.

The only barleywine I've had lately is my own. I'd recommend avoiding it like ISIS because it's really bad.

We unfortunately live in a barleywine desert. We don't have any great shelfies like sucaba or straight jacket. My barleywine adjacent go to's are backwoods bastard and wulver. Good luck!

Haven’t had it in years, but I recall enjoying Insanity and seeing it on the shelves recently. I also saw East End had their BA Gratitude cans for sale. Great Divide periodically has bottles of their BA stuff too. Not a barley wine, but their BA Rye Brown Ale was tasty and scratched that itch.

welp, not 2016 gratitude. I stored it dry and cool and uv free. It tasted like eating a metallic pussy covered in brown sugar emulsion. The tides have changed. Go pats.
