Good question, I'm not all that sure, that's why I said I'm guessing. hornydevil could definitely speak to that better than me.
So you referencing hop phenols/polyphenols in regards to a melon/cantaloupe character is pure ignorance?

Maybe you can't, that doesn't mean others can't
Be sure to let me know when you have a great one with those combinations.

That was actually a typo on my part. I meant to say that I've EVEN had a great single hopped cascade beer. And BG did do one called Flight Risk which is the beer I was referencing, and it was fantastic.

What are the effects of hop polyphenols on flavor/taste?

I know shuggy cube's ignoring extends to me, but I found this, from John Palmer in BYO, 2009:

In conclusion, we have determined that hop polyphenols do occur at high levels in craft brewed beer, that hop polyphenols are significantly bitter, and that raw alpha acids may come from dry hopping or hopbacks will increase the BU but not the actual perceived bitterness.

And it wouldn't surprise me to hear him say that Palmer's full of **** & doesn't know anything, either. Here's the full article: http://byo.com/bock/item/1762-hop-polyphenols-advanced-brewing

The shame of it is you claiming I'm ignorant for stating the choice of ingredient that is the biggest flavor and aroma contributor of an IPA has something to do with it being enjoyable and you spouting brewing knowledge you obviously pulled out of your ass.

The infotainment has been excellent guys. Thank you. Just downloaded the new ATDI, will report back later.

I really didn't like them when I was young... At all.

That being said, listening to the new one now, and I definitely enjoy it more than I ever did any of their earlier stuff. That probably means their old school fans will hate it.

I had a full run through on my way to work and I like it a lot so far. Pendulum in a Peasant Dress is my early favorite. The riff in Hostage Stamps is so Volta which still catches me off guard.

How hard did Pitchfork beat their collective dick over a new ATDI album? I imagine there's no skin even left... Just raw flesh.

Did they end up reviewing it yet? I saw them announce but it seems like they just copy and pasted the news like every other outlet.

Unless this is in jest (in which case, it's ******* hilarious), can we all agree to please stop doing this? He's just a homebrewer like the rest of us...we make beer, he makes beer, we know things, he knows things...we're all on equal footing here.

Unfortunately doing it at home versus professionally doesn't separate people's level of brewing knowledge. He knows more about brewing chemistry than the majority of the Pittsburgh professional brewers.

I'll second that (while dodging the comparison to the local pro brewers). He & Malcolm are prolly the most "deep science" homebrew guys I've met.
