So what does it say that other than my family, the only other thing I've "missed" so far about being in Pittsburgh is knowing there's a voodoo release that I can't partake in?? :(:(:(

It's Homebrew Sunday says psnydez86 and Shuggy.

Kegging up a Lactose Mango IPA with Citra/Galaxy and a Coconut/Cinnamon Benderish Brown.

Please enlighten me...why add lactose to an ipa? I haven't home brewed in a couple years now and haven't kept up with technique/trends...is that what achieves the cloudiness? Honest question here.

(PS - that looks like a great garage to brew in)

So... greg4579 Your kid aint got nothing to do with beer so pardon my french... **** him. What does him getting dough have to do with Caliente's beer selection... Nothin. Your review is ********. I feel you though cause I grew up in PT and I understand the need and desire to get acceptance from your neighbors. I grew out of that ****. Unlike shuggy who is living large in some tired ass split level ranch in Butler.
Quite an entrance!

Seeing as how it seems that you signed up because of some weird Western PA sort of beef (sandwiches out there are pretty weird), I suggest you refrain from any further attacks or we will have to bring the real trolls into this thread, which I doubt anybody wants.

Seriously though, play nice.

The best part about FoFA (aside from the gratuitous tip touching with Rjdillman and the beer/glassware) was a bunch of Boston dudes inquiring about brew gentleman beer based on the Paste article.

Paste must be like Dorsia.

Arthur was on draft in Burlington. I think I had 6 pours on Friday night.

The beer was inspired by Omnipollo/Tired Hands Milkshake Series IPAs. The lactose doesn't affect cloudiness. That's grist/yeast/hop derived.

The lactose adds a creamy full body. Then fruity hops, low bitterness, and actual fruit make for a beer that drinks like an actual smoothie. It's quite trippy. Fruit tends to thin out a beer so the lactose helps maintain body also.

100 on this.

Also, we have a Strawberry Lactose IPA on at Hitchhiker right now which certainly reeks of rotting vegetables and disappointment.

Anybody go to Insurrection today to get a free pour of Double Dry hopped Gunga Galunga? Thought it was pretty good and super crushable, but dat Upgrayedd, second time I've had it and confirmed its my favorite Pittsburgh IPA, can't wait for their soon to come expansion and canning line.

Any highlights? I was there Wednesday and had a chance to buy tix but couldn't manage to pull it off with the kids.

The best beer for me was la sarrasin, hands down. Barrel aged Dorothy, juicy, civil disobedience 15, soigné 13, and flora blue/black/currant were nutso. Somehow I overlooked Norma 13 and a few guys mentioned it as a favorite of theirs. I love Norma so I'm kicking myself for that.

The guest taps were crazy, all brought their A game. Tired hands THBCBC, side project fuzzy, jester king spontaneous blend, SARA West Ashley and capitola sunset, amd crooked stave batch 200 were the highlights. If you're interested I'll post the whole list.

The lines for some beer, particularly the "whale" side project stuff was so laughable at the start I just sat there and drank juicy while giving zero ***** about cuvée de tete.

The crowd was good, maybe a touch large. 10,000 dollars was raised for a local charity by raffling off 5 magnums (HF: Ann, works of love, juicy and side project: balaton and fuzzy). The weather was poor for the first hour but cleared up and the food options were great. The bathroom situation was laughable. There were five bathrooms and my wife told me three of the five didn't have toilet paper.

I'd go again in a heartbeat. Getting up to drive back at 5am was painful.

Wow that sounds like a great time. We're gonna shoot for next year. They had sarrasin bottles for in house consumption when I was there but they were $60 so we got Ann instead. I hadn't had many of their beers before my trip but now both my wife and I are hooked.

I love Hill Farmstead in general, but I totally agree with you on this one. Le Sarrasin is a game changer and is head and shoulders above Ann and Art in my book.

This sounds like such an awesome time.

If you don't mind Greg, would you be able to post the tap lists when you get a chance? I'm particularly interested in what Side Project brought up. Can't believe that Tete de Cuvee was pouring.

I don't have the list with me, i'll snap a pic later but from memory - SP poured:

Tête De Cuvée
Fuzzy
Bleuet Du Fermier

Possibly a 4th? i'll have to check later unless Greg remembers. Most of us ignored the SP line to start as it was huge, we enjoyed unlimited pours of about 25 other amazing beers.

Also jeevo, meet me for your damn tasters :)

I would definitely do the trying a dozen awesome beers over tasting one awesome beer route, but those are some pretty nice looking offerings that Side Project brought up. The first batch of Fuzzy was one of the first wild ales I've had and still ranks as one of my favorites.

And I can't believe you still have those! I've been saying this for what seems like a year+ now, but I'll shoot you a message the next time I'm out at BG or Voodoo or what not. Thanks.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your *******. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

That movie was pretty spectacular but that book will give you nightmares.

This is what I recall too, Joe, plus saison de ble.

jeevo the line for cuvée was ridiculous (think 200+) and HF was pouring juicy, CD15, and BA Dorothy. I was content drinking those and grabbing a sip of the tete and bluet while drinking the HF stuff.

I like the side project stuff a lot and fuzzy was a highlight. However, HF is just at another level for me.

Having had another Arthur the other day, I'd have to agree. If there is a better non-barreled saison out there, I've yet to have it. I struggle to think of how to improve that beer. And I really do like Side Project. Their Foudre Beer is outstanding as is Saison du Ble. But just plain old Arthur is basically perfect in my eyes.

The one time I had Saison du Ble it was overpoweringly tart. I just thought it was too much. That's my sum total experience with SP to this point though. I do have a bottle of Balaton that I've not opened yet.
