I know a guy who has 6 Pinlock Cornelius Kegs that he is selling for $10 each, or all six for $45. He's says they all work perfectly (I work with the guy, so I trust him). I've never done kegging before, but is this a good deal?

I'm also still learning about the different equipment and I've heard of both Ball Lock and Pinlock. Is there a huge difference? And will pinlocks work with most home brewing applications?

Lastly, per Keg, how much more would I need to invest to get this up and running, if I only have the keg? Also, I've heard about people refilling thier C02, how much does a refill on avg cost, and how long do they last (one 5 gallon batch?).

Thanks.

fridge or freezer....$0 - ?
Temp controller (req'd for freezer)....$60
Tank and regulator....$120
fittings, picnic taps, hoses...$80

tapping your 1st pint...priceless!

A 5 lb co2 refill is 10 - 20 bucks and will tap 5-10, 5 gal. kegs.

ps. pin locks are fine, mostly personal preference

The pin lock connectors are available online for about the same price as the ball locks. 10 dollars a keg is a good deal, especially if they are in good shape.

I'd buy all 6 - pinlocks are a PITA to find, but at that price ya can't go wrong. Most don't need more than 6, and you'll have a startup cost of about 1/2 what most spend for 4. See if he has a CO2 tank and regulator that he wants to sell cheap....

Haha. Thanks much.

One last thing. Can beer be stored in these? If yes, for how long? For instance, after a batch has finished fermenting, can I rack it to one of these and then tap it a few months (2,3,4,6,10) later? I'm thinking of big beers that would normally need to be put down in the cellar in bottles for months at a time.

You can absolutely use cornies for long term storage.

For long term storage just make sure to hit the keg with a few pounds of CO2 to make sure you have a good seal.

You've found a deal that makes using the lesser available style worth it. All things equal, I recommend ball lock kegs but no one is selling ball lock kegs anywhere near that price.

Pinlocks can be very dangerous. I think it'd be best if I were to take them off your hands.

Anyone?

Is this mic on?

If you had 6 cornies would you hold on to them for a year?

...I would...

:)
