I want to start kegging some of my brews so I started to look for some used kegs. Happened to talk to a guy that used to run a place that closed many years ago. SCORE he told me he has some old pop kegs in storage I could have. I ended up with 7 pin lock kegs and 1 ball lock keg. One keg was even still full of pop with a tag dated 1985! All are I'm great shape no dents just a bit dusty. Anybody seen these lids ? About 4 kegs have these.

Can't get the picture to load but they have a large metal cover that folds over the posts and a place where it can be locked down. Just tamper proof maybe?

These lids.

Nice score!

I haven't seen those lids in years (I'm talking late 70's)! Those were just covers to keep the posts from getting damaged. You can replace the lids with ones that have a PRV

If you are interested in getting rid of your one odd ball lock, I'd definitely be interested in it. PM me and we can discuss that.

Looks like a flap to keep the valves in the posts from being pushed in (probably for transportation?).

My kegs don't have pressure relief either. Never been a problem.

3 of these lids are stamped Firestone and have no pressure relief valve, the rest do have the fuse type valve. I haven't decided to leave as pin lock or change to ball lock. I guess it don't really matter as i'm starting with new parts. As far as gaskets (o-rings) go is there actually a difference between corny and these Firestone coke kegs?

THe O-Rings should be pretty universal. The only ones that are different are the racetrack style lids (which your's are not).

I scored a bunch of old pin locks - none have pressure release and it is not at all an issue.

I ordered the 5 gasket kits from keg connection and that and some elbow grease I am good to go.

Good luck with your pin locks!
