can someone explain the allure of the pilsner? i see alot of people brewing them and everyone i have had seemed to boring. if you like hops why not ipa or pale ale? they are so much more complex and delicious. is it just me or is pilsner style very boring and usually quite tastless? can someone who likes them please explain their allure?

Never made a pilsner...I am not ready yet...can't wait until I can.

To me brewing a pilsner is like wearing a white shirt to spaghetti eating contest and not getting a drop of sauce on it. Does that make sense?:drunk:

i had pilsner uriquel and found it ok but a little boring and subdued. i live in south florida and it gets hot here too but on a hot day i would rather have a hefe, pale ale, or something like that, they are light refreshing and have great taste. im not passing judgment or anything like that but isnt pilsner like the hardest beer to make? to me it doesnt seem worth so much effort for such a (in my opinion) boring beer

It all comes down to personal taiste. To be honest, I myself only drink pilsners once in a blue moon. Yes, they are hard to make, they are so light that every single impurity will show up and be recognizable. In a lot other fuller flavored beers, the fuller flavor can sometimes cover up these impurities.

I live in the middle of Redneck Central and that is all they will drink. I remember giving my uncle (who is a huge redneck) a guiness one time. That is the only beer I have ever seen him take that he gave back. He just took one sipe and that was it. He will not drink anything but American Pilsners. He doesn't even like Pilsner Urquell. So if not for Pilsners, what would rednecks drink? ;)

I've never liked them much either. They are all a bit drier than the beers I like to drink and some have a spicy or black pepper flavor that I don't like either.

ahh pilsner, the best pale beer known to man, you know I cant stand a pale ale the sweet estery taste has made me actually sick before, I tried to like them, tried Samual Adams, Fat tire pale ale, just cant get used to that sweet taste, got to have that dry crisp lager. There is a reason lager yeast took over the brewing world in the last century.
Its a crime what the USA did to pilsner by using rice and corn and watering the beer down., the pale BMC crap does not deserve to be called pilsner. A fresh, non skunked Pilsner Urquel is heaven on earth, I can only imagine what an unpasterized version would taste like. Unfortunatly many European beers such as Bavarian, Becks, Heiniken beer are skunked due to being in green bottles and exposed to light. Ignorant drinkers have actually become accustomed to the skunk taste and prefer it!

Ah but now they come in cans and the skunk isn't there anymore.
I love a pils as much as anyother beer. And I do like other beers.
A nice bitter ale suits me as fine as a dry stout.
