Pilsner pursuit

I'm far from an expert on Pils and don't want to compare this one to all the beers mentioned here, but I will just say that Dovetail Pilsner on draft in the Chicago heat wave was delicious yesterday. Kind of a hint of lemon in there. A brightness that I'm guessing comes from hops. Really clean and crisp. First time having their stuff. Not sure if they do growlers or howlers, but I have to get up to their brewery in the near future to check it out.

Dovetail Pilsner is probably the best one being produced in Chicagoland at the moment, the water character and base malt / decoction combination they use is hard to beat. Crisp, clean and delicious.

It's a great spot to visit especially with Begyle and Band of Bohemia within 5 minutes of Dovetail.

Finally tickin Real Ale Hans Pils thanks to the generosity of jrstar96

Quite bitter for a pils, but there is enough malt backbone to balance things out. Has a lot more melanoidin character than most offerings I've had lately. Love Tettnang hops. Used to love Saaz and Czech style pils, but at this point I'm firmly in the German pils camp.


btw jrstar96 ...my girl drank all the LO Hef you sent while I was on vacation last week. So proud.

Soft up front. Spicy Noble hops at the end. Very subtle hint of sulfur.

I've hated on this Brewery in the past, but this is a good Czech-style Pils.

Stammtisch and Zwickel (you want that too) are available at most grocery stores and bottle shops. Technical Ecstasy is only available at the brewery for now. Schlafly's white lager is good too.

Connecticut's been a bit spoiled for pilsners in the last year or so after a relative drought. NEBCO's making Elm City regularly again, Hooker is cranking out cans of Platform Pils (admittedly I haven't tried this one), new breweries like Fox Farm are debuting with already solid pilsners, and there's plenty of out of state shelfies now available like Pivo and Jack's Sunny Ridge.

This batch of Workhorse by Counter Weight might trump them all for me though. I never thought I'd have a local pilsner I enjoy as much as Elm City but this most recent batch (now with Perle in addition to Tettnang) checks all the boxes for me. Just an amazing lemony cleanliness with each sip.

I found a place in PA that sells this. The cost is a little less than a Prima. I've never tried it before but the untappd reviews are pretty low. Is this beer good because of the price or because it's good?

Drinking a Heater Allen Pils now courtesy of leftoverburrito. It has a bit more of a malt backbone than a typical Bohemian Pils and I am enjoying it. Great back porch, summer evening beer.

I really liked this one. Not sure what hops it uses but it has a crisp and slightly citrusy bite at the end. Very refreshing.

This might be a silly question, but I'll ask anyway: what's the "shelf life" of a can/bottle of Pilsner? I'm under the impression that Pilsner is more like a saison, and less like an IPA with regard to how quickly it should be consumed. That said, I've had saisons with 3+ years on them. I know there's no right answer here, but any thoughts?
