pickle bucket

I have access to a large number of pickle buckets with lids. Has anyone had success in removing the pickle smell and using these?

I have had 1 for about a year now. I have tried oxyclean, Dawn, & bleach. Did lengthy soaks (2 - 3 days), for each, still smells like pickles. The bleach did the best job. The bucket has been sitting open for a couple months now, the smell is faint, but still there.

I say just go with it and make a dill pickle ipa.

Use it as a seat for when you get tired of scubbing the pickle out of it.

I had the same problem with a glass jar! I figured the smell wouldn't affect the taste of anything I put in there, so I made my own candi sugar (syrup) and put it in there. Tasted like pickles.

Now, I have a use for my Pickle Bucket.

Scrub it with Root Beer concentrate. It may not get rid of the pickle smell completely, but I bet it will less noticeable.

I got three of these when I asked for some buckets at the cafeteria. I use one as my compost bucket under my sink and the other two are used in the garden. Won't go near them for brewing.
