for 29.97, at the nine minute mark I had luke warm water and that is without the cover on, I know with the cover the water will heat up faster, but I wanted to see what approximately 3 gallons would be like. I'm running a stop watch on it so I'll have a fairly accurate time.

I have the gas opened to not quite 3/4.......my only concern is how much gas am I going to use heating a 10 gallon container......

Next test will be with 6 gallons and the lid on, this is to test it for an all grain boil.

Are you somewhere where it is very windy? I think I usually need about 30m total to bring around 6gal to a boil but im not really sure since i BIAB and stop part way for my mash. Put that lid on and you will achieve your results quicker. You really arent wasting more gas than you would with a medium sized gas grill

I thought blue was hotter still got a little yellow showing up but 80% blue and I have the intake for air opened all the way

The ambient temp is 68 right now and I'm 31 min in with still no boil

Here are two pics

Opened the gas up all the way and sounds like a jet engine so that's wasting gas

You want a blue flame. I thought the same thing about the jet engine sound with my burner. I've done two 90 minute boils after using the propane tank at least a dozen times for the grill and it still has gas. Open that baby up... it'll boil much quicker.. about 3/4 works for me. I'd also recommend somethiing to shield the wind.

Frustrated checked the rp of the water and was right at 200 f never got above that no matter how high I turned the gas up

I'm going to, I know that someone mentioned the bayou classic, I wonder how that would work with a 10 gallon kettle?

Lowes carries em so I figured I would check them out.....but it was rated for 55k btu where this was supposed to be 58k and I still couldn't get it to boil...granted no top on, but I was told that once you get the wort boiling for that 60 min period you want to leave the top off as much as possible.....

get a bayou classic sp-10. it's $45 from amazon. is that a winware 40 qt pot?

hmm...If its supposed to deliver more btu's than the bayou classic, I wonder whats up.

But yeah, you gutta turn that puppy up. BTU's in btu's out. More gas in, more heat out. You cant get more out than you put in. In fact, you cant get as much out as you put in. Thats just physics. No thermodynamic process is 100% efficient. Do you have wind?

You will burn more gas with a bigger burner and if you watched that moonshine show on cable, your burner should be making about the same sound. lol. It happens. So if you wanted to boil faster, and use less gas or energy to do it, please pass it on. That's Nobel Prize stuff right there.

LOL.......

Well I know that Aluminum heats up faster than stainless steel, but if the ambient temp is off, I wonder if that is having an impact on the kettle. I looked at the 7 1/2 it was the same diameter just shorter it looked like and I didn't think that would be big enough long term....now I'm starting to wonder.....

Is there a risk of ruining the kettle by applying too much heat to the bottom? If not, I'll reload it up and crank it up to the top and see what happens.....I'll even put the lid on to get the pressure working in my favor and then pop it off and see if if holds the boil.

Go for the Bayou...I'm rocking that with a 42qt kettle and no problems. Wind could also be a factor and def get that lid on until you get the rolling boil!

Ok restarted the test, there is a bit of wind blowing, not much but I didn't notice it earlier so maybe there was and I just wasn't paying close enough attention.

Pro advantage is the name of the kettle.

Reloaded it with somewhere between 6 and 7 gallons of water and popped the lid on....

I'll give you an update shortly....its been going for about 3 minutes now.

I bought that same burner a couple of years ago for fish frying and could never achieve a blue flame, which meant the bottom of my pots would turn black with soot. I now have a Bayou Classic and have never looked back.

I don't think that burner is meant to boil water, only to fry oil, which takes a lot less power.

It's going back tomorrow

After a second run with 6-7 gallons of water and full flame for 20 min still nor close to a boil
