I've heard of the various programs out there for helping home brewers dial in their process, make recipes, etc. But do these come with any really good apps for mobile phones, or is there a stand alone ap that is great to use?
I tend to get lazy in taking notes on brew day, and needless to say, it probably means that I'm not improving as fast as I could be if I were to take the more scientific approach. The things I'd like to nail more specifically is getting my mash temps right and keeping better track of how much grain/hops I actually put into the brew (as I often modify recipes on the fly to squeeze that extra gallon in, or make use of that extra 1/2 oz of hops that'll be sitting by it's lonesome if I don't). "Just throw it in there" is often my rallying call.
So Specifically I'm looking for some type of ap that will keep track of the following for me:
1) How many pounds of grain go into the mash (total and breakdown)
2) strike water temperature and volume
3) intended mash temp
4) grain temp, and air temp
5) actual mash temp
6) same as above for sparge water
7) Mash ph and adjustments (such as lactic acid)
8) Yest used, starter size, etc.
9) Periodic list of ferment temps (there's minor temp fluctuations in my basement - would be good to keep track of them semi-regularly).
10) Dates and length of time fermenting, (how many times have I said to myself, "when the heck did I brew this one?" etc
11) Priming sugar measuring calculations, etc
12) Tasting notes.
13) An inventory of ingredients (This would be huge for me - I hate having to take an extra 30-40 mins while assembling my shopping list to check and often re-measure out what I already have).
Now I imagine that most programs, like beer smith enable one to most or all of this (and I intend to get it with my next paycheck) but these would require one to sit one's butt down at a computer and input the data. What would be better for me is if it's on a mobile device that I can make all the inputs on the fly. I'd be much more inclined to a thorough note-taker if I had this.
Is something like this already well available, or am I asking waaay too much?
Thanks!
