IMO, going dry for 30 days isn't much of a challenge. It might be more difficult if there was plenty of home brew on hand, but I know I always want a beer most when there isn't any around. When I have plenty in the house, I don't drink it very fast. Just avoid having the guys over for the month and that will remove the "social" aspect and should make it lots easier.
I'm going on 5 months of forced sobriety, courtesy of Uncle Sam. Lots 30 lbs so far, but its mostly due to having nothing better to do than work out 2.5 hours a day, 6 days a week. Best diet I was ever on though, was when I was stationed in Korea. I drank so much I didn't eat very much. The choice was buy food or beer. Beer won pretty much every time. There are whole weekends I don't even remember
