Paintball Bottle O-Rings?

I was setting up a portable kegging rig Friday. I was tightening the paintball tank adapter (allows a regular regulator to be used) when I had a blow out. CO2 was leaking, and tightening the adapter did no good.

It looks like the o-ring at the top of the paintball tank was somehow damaged. The tank worked fine last time I used it.

Has anybody else had this happen? I can probably get a new o-ring, but can't figure out how it was damaged.

I got through the day simply hand tightening the tank to bump up the pressure in the kegs when needed. I lost some CO2, but the beer kept pouring.

You can pick up a bag of 12 of those rings at a sporting goods store for pennies.

I use keg lube on the threads and the o-ring before tightening down.

Paintball o-rings break constantly, it's the way they get scraped as they get screwed in since they're around the side.

They aren't the same size, but Keg disconnect o-rings work great for paintball co2 tanks. I always carry a few to paintball matches since they're always needed. Plus I got 200 from McMaster for 5$ vs what a PB shop wants.

I buy mine at Paintball Tank O-Rings where you can get 100 for $5.50 delivered. Most of the sporting goods stores will sell you 5 or 10 rings for $3.99

There is a paintball shop right around the corner, where I get my CO2 refills. I'll pop in a pick up some rings from him. He can use the business, I'm sure.

I need to put together a "Portable Serving Emergency Repair Kit", I guess. I ran off and left my teflon tape this time, too.

Any advice on what to carry in a kit like that?

Teflon Tape
Various sizes of rings
Extra liquid and gas cornie connector
extra paintball tank
backup CO2 injector with a couple of cartridges
complete spare beer line (including cobra tap)
???

The reason that the O-ring gets damages is when you remove the tank from the duck bill (what we called them in paintball) the co2 makes the O-ring expand and it gets caught in the threads when unscrewing.. I don't know if you ever payed attention to when they bleed off the lines in the PB shop they do about a half turn on the tank, shoot it until the air is drained out of the lines and then they finish taking off the tank.

When I used to paintball as a teen we'd have to replace those tank o-rings several times per season.

the design of the cylinders and how they screwed in to the gun just cause them to shred easily.

word thats the ticket you have to back the tank off just turn then blean teh line before you compleatly unscrew the tank

adding an on/off valve to your paintball tank will drastically improve the life of your oring. they shred from the gas passing the oring and chilling it as you screw it out to close the pin valve.

With an on/off valve on my paintball tank, I do not need to use any special adapter, as it has the same threads as my 5LB tank and no pinvalve.

I play paintball with my marker, so my tank is my backup gas when i need to refill my main tank, and used for paintball also.

I bought mine with my 20oz CO2 tank at the paintball shop for an extra $10
I know Amazon.com sells the PMI and Smart Parts tanks with an on/off valve too..

Paintball tanks are cheaper to replace than re-hydro, so after your 7 years expire, simply move your on/off valve to your new tank.
