I see a lot of folks are using these submersible pond type pumps for keg/carboy cleaning... running PBW and/or starsan through them.

I'm wondering what type of plastic these pumps are made from? Safe for contact with PBW and Starsan?

Here's some links to a few of them I've seen others using:

Just curious. Thanks for the info!

Out of those I would get the 1/6hp pump. Those fountain pumps do not have much lift power.
I had a fountain pump I used to pump ice water through my immersion chiller. It was a PITA. I had to have the cooler and the kettle at the same height and even then had to work to get it flowing.

Cant remember the hp off hand but I upgraded to a sump pump (pacific hydrostar from harbor frieght) it was on clearance and I got a great deal. It works great no complaints. I doubt soap will hurt it.

edit: mine is a 1/4 hp 1200 gph 20ft lift.

i agree... i guess the question was more about the plastic and if/how it holds up to the PBW and STARSAN. is it a type of plastic that's okay to use with these chemicals? i'm assuming so since so many ppl are using them as conical cleaning pumps but didn't see any mention of this specifically. nothing on any product website speaks to the type of plastic these pumps are made out of.

I've been using mine for almost 3 years with PBW and Starsan with no issues so far, just make sure to flush it well with fresh water before you put it away after use.
