Overprimed my Kolsch

Hello!

I primed my Kolsch 4 volumes of CO2 by mistake. I was intending to use 3 volumes. Is it possible to "fix" this by opening the bottles and recapping to release some pressure? How long should I wait before doing this? I am concerned that my bottles will explode!

Is it possible to recap the same cap if I open it very slightly, just to depressurize?

I have never had is issue but your safest bet might be to dump them all back into a fermenter and wait for all fermentation activity to die down and prime and bottle over again.

Yes, you can carefully bleed the pressure on the caps by gently pulling on the edge with a bottle opener just enough to let the pressure out. The cap will re-seal itself. Repeat a few times every 24 hours. You will be fine.

I tried this yesterday (24h after bottling) on one bottle but there were barely any CO2 in the bottle yet, just a tiny hiss. I guess the fermentation has not really started yet. I will try again today and see what happens.
