I was, just now, brewing a Hefeweizen, when the gas ran out - right in the middle of the boil. and i wont be able to get more until monday morning... and because of my work, I won't be resuming the process until 11:30 am.

So, am I completely ****ed? as anything like this ever happened to you?

Yep. I had about 15 minutes left to boil, so I moved it over to the stove and put it across two burners..was just enough to keep a decent rolling boil. Then I hollered about the stupid propane company. Finally I sucked it up and bought another propane tank as a back up so it never happens again.

I'm not alone! Same darn thing happened to me today and I felt like a dumb dumb but now I don't feel so bad. Luckily Menards is a mile away with a self-serve exchanger!
I'm going to have to follow gplutt and get a backup.

I don't have a second tank, but I have a buddy who lives a half mile away and has a grill. :D

I would put it somewhere safe -- best would be a stoppered carboy. DON'T PITCH THE YEAST! Then, just get it up to boiling again when you can and continue from where you left off (and if you have to re-use that carboy, clean and sanitize it). It should be fine. It will just be . . . different, potentially. And annoying to reproduce if you end up loving it!

Do your neighbors hate you - why can't you borrow their tank?

now that it is cooled off here, I will be running a natural gas line for my grill and burner, I just need to rejet for the NG. I have run out of propane at flameout twice now and wont be pushing my luck during a boil anymore. I may keep a propane tank and burner just as backup though.

I had to borrow the neighbor's tank to finish a porter a few weeks ago. He enjoys the end product so he didn't mind.
I will probably buy another tank in the near future.
