Do you have a mill? Or know someone who can mill it for you? A local homebrew club can be a real asset.

If not, buying milled grain is a toss up. The milling tends to be fairly coarse, or coarser. You may need to mash longer and stir more often to get decent extraction efficiency. Do an Iodine test to check for completion of conversion.

You can't store milled grain that long, maybe a year if kept in (food grade) barrier bags and if kept cool or frozen maybe up to 2 years? But it surely doesn't improve.

I’m going to go on my own here and suggest you look at AIH, Adventures in Homebrewing. They are an excellent LHBS and an amazing online retailer for whatever you need as far as brewing goes-their prices are second to none especially when things are on sale (used corny kegs for $39!) and their selection has never left me wanting.

I can’t recommend them enough.

Atlantic Brew Supply carries a local (if you're in NC) maltster, Epiphany. Has anyone tried any of their malts?

I just picked up two bags straight from Epiphany Monday. Making a Centennial IPA Sunday.

i'm totally serious though......do you brew 5 or 10 gallon batches? how much do you typically use for a batch? i'll get it ready and PM you for a shipping address, when it's done!

I'm totally serious too! I'd be willing to give it a shot! I do 5 gallon batches...usually doing IPA's, browns, ambers, etc., with up to a 11 to 11.5lb grain bill all said and done.

i'll get it going tomorrow, when i put this current batch in the oven to kiln.....takes about a week to spout, dry, and kiln....expect my PM!
