I happened upon a very old pamphlet on brewing on the amazon bookstore. If you have a kindle you can download "A treatise on brewing beer" for free.

It is a very quick read and gives insight to how people brewed beer in London in 1796.

Check it out if you get a chance.
 
I've had that one for a few months, and its interesting how the methods have evolved..... never looked at the copyright though. I didn't realize it was that old
 
I remember reading part of that one a while back. Wooden tubs & hot rocks for some. Then all that shiny copper.
 
Hm, maybe I'll have to check that out. Some of my favorite parts from Designing Great Beers was when Daniels went into the historical storylines of the style.
 
I remember this from earlier in the year. You should check out the section on "AN OLD METHOD OF GIVING BUTT A FINE TANG."

I'm always looking for an old-school method of getting my azz some fine 'tang. Gotta love 18th Century English.
