Prob a stupid question but here goes. A friend gave me a kit when found out I started home brewing, Its old, dme like a brick and lme can a lil swollen. The hop pellets are still vacuum sealed, should I use em or just pitch em? I kept the caps not sure why,I have 3 corneys so far and always looking for more. I know off topic question but what the heck... I made a cerveza kit, one of those prehopped things (muntons). It was cheap so I tried it. In a keg over a week at 10 psig @38* pretty nasty stuff.???? Or is it I got on a stone brewery kick while waiting for stuff to get done and even that "horse wizz" beer tastes nasty now. Need to win the lotto so I can buy all the beer making stuff I want!!!!!

If the LME can's swollen, I'd suspect it's been infected or otherwise compromised. I'd pitch it. The DME can be soaked in some boiled water to get it to break up & dissolve if you want. The hops might be gone at this point.

I would just trash it all. It is just not worth it. Think about it. Would cook a meal with questionable ingredients?

Brew a beer with fresh stuff.

The caps, kept cool & dry in a plastic bag lasted me for years. I had a bag of Brewer's Best caps left over from a kit my wife brewed that used my o2 barrier caps instead. Som 2-3 years later, I ran short & needed them. Worked just fine.
