Some of you know that I can brew larger batches. I have only done 25 gallons at a time because that's all I could handle in my MLT. But on May 2nd I will be brewing a 40 gallon batch of Barley wine for a club brew (55 gallon batch to be aged in an oak barrel).
So I'm right now working on building my 55 gallon MLT and modifying my rig to be easily changed over from my normal 10 gallon to a 1BBL rig.

I don't want to go into the club brew not knowing how the rig will work so sometime in the end of March beginning of April I need to have the rig up and going to do a test batch. This is where you come in. I need/want a good recipe.
Oh sure I could just brew one of my house beers that I do over and over again. At least that way I would be stocked up for the year on that beer. But, what fun would that be?

Do you have a good TRIED AND TRUE recipe? If so share it with me here, I'll pick the one that sounds the best, brew a 1BBL batch of it and when it's all said and done, I'll ship some of it to you.

:note: I can't lager, well I "can" but not that much at one time so no lagers please.

I logged in to post "centennial blonde" but looking at your sig you're all stocked up there.

Definitely brew something that you're going to like a lot of. If it were me I'd brew one of the "staple" pale ales or light hybrids from this site, never had any trouble getting rid of any of them.

A batch that size would scare me, I'd never be able to choose. Good luck to you.

Make your Red Dragon IPA that stuff rocks! I also have a good clone for Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale. For some reason im on a clone kick.:mug:

Wish I could help with a recipe, but I have only tried any recipe I have done, once.

I may be able to help out if needed for the maiden voyage of the new rig, let us locals know if/when you need a hand.

151 poeple have looked and no one is willing to do this?

That looks like a nice pale.

What do you like to drink?

And what will you be fermenting in? If you are splitting the ferment into multiple carboys, I would take this opportunity to do an experiment where you use a different yeast for each carboy.

55 gallons!!! And you wonder why there's a hop shortage.
I have to show this to my SWMBO maybe then she'll be happy I brew 5g at one time.

There is no beer "style" that I don't like or wont drink. But I tend to drink the most of pale's, stouts, and really hoppy IPA's.

I will be fermenting in both 15 gallon barrels and 6 gallon BB's. With the stout I posted I thought maybe I would mix it up a little, use differnt yest, add differnt fruits to some of them, stuff like that.

Dude, if it were me, I would do some form of a hoppy as hell IPA. But, if I had a full barrel of beer, I would want something that would age awesomely like a RIS. I say bomb it from orbit with a hoppy barleywine. It's the only way to be sure.

Blech, who want's a Chocolate Stout with spring coming?;)
This is a simple yet refreshingly delicious recipe. I have it on tap now and everyone loves it.

Do you know how long it's going to take to drink 35 gallons? It will be winter before I'm half way thru. lol

The IPA looks good too, hmmm..

Go for a classic Dry Stout because it is a basic recipe, low hops (not going to waste a bunch of money on something you won't finish in time to enjoy the hops), and big and roasty flavor that will mellow with time. Your Chocolate Stout looks good, but after a bit of time you will start getting a really smooth and lose that roasty stout flavor. Aim for 4.5% or so to make it easy drinking.

That's all I can say. That or a summer beer that you can bring to parties and just let it get drank quickly.

I would include a recipe, but I haven't done that large and don't use Beersmith or anything. Easy enough though as it's 70/20/10 2-row/Flaked/Roasted

not sure for a recipe but i'd like to watch you do it.
We are still talking about brewing, right?

To the OP, I would go with Edwort's Haus Pale Ale. It is a very easy drinker, great flavor that even many BMC drinkers could help you drink.... and the hop bill won't break the bank like 55 gal of Yooper's DFH clone would.

Erik, just go to the 'My Recipes' header, highlight the recipe you wish to export --> File --> Export As

Then click: Only the Items that are selected and Text File (or whatever format you wish to export it as). Then save as you would any other file. You can then open it up in notepad and highlight, copy, paste, etc.

fine lets try it this way

Well I think I'm going to brew this one. It looks good to me and it wont break the bank. I took Dude's Lake Walk APA and scaled it up to 37 gallons and with almost 3 pounds of hops it's just more then I want to spend. Even if I bought the hops thru Nikobrew it would be $120 just in the hops. I tried telling myself that it would still work out to only be $.50 per glass I just can't talk myself into it.
Plus Erik has said that he wants to come that day and brew too. So what better then to brew his recipe with him there. :mug:

Yes my plan is to brew on 4/4/09 starting around 8:00 AM.
I have more work to do this week on it but I'm just about ready. I did a "run thru" last weekend and found a few things to change. I'm planning to do another all water test this Sunday to get an idea of temp losses and such.
I need to make my mash paddle too.

If you want to come just PM me and I'll get you my address. :mug:
