What would be causing my OG to be so high? My last two brews have been significantly higher than they should be. The extract kit I just brewed today was gaarden hoe. Projected og 1.049 my og 1.060. my last batch off the topper double ipa projected og 1.070 actual og 1.090. now i was only getting around 38 beers per batch to i measured out the gallons with a milk jug and remarked my bucket instead of going by the factory marks. Could that be the problem? The milk jugs was more than the factory marks.

if you are only getting 38 bottle you are likely not topping up to the 5 gallons the kit is designed for. If you top up to the 5 gallon mark you will always get the given range for a kit.

The best way to measure volume is with weight. 8.34 pounds per gallon. that will give you accurate marks on your bucket.

The factory markings are more often inaccurate than accurate. Your resulting volume in the bottle is good proof your bucket was not accurately marked.
