So, my pre and post volume were nearly perfect. My pre boil gravity was supposed to be 1.054, it was 1.052...no problem there as far as I'm concerned. My OG was 1.060, Beersmith estimated 1.071. I confirmed this reading with a cooled hydrometer sample as well as multiple refractometer readings, all consistent with 1.060.
What could cause all of my other numbers to be practically spot on but the OG be so far off? This was the first time I had any data(.40) entered in the "Loss to trub/chiller" field. Normally I leave that blank as i've heard that cause problems. However; I was using a different brew kettle and wanted to account for what was left at the bottom after it went into the fermenter.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
