Did the delete check-in feature get removed? I am not seeing it anymore.
No, it's still there. If you're on android it got moved to the little options button in the top bar (the thing that looks like "..." on its side).

Have you guys seen the new beeradvocate app? Untappd is obsolete now.
Yes.

I used to not really like untappd, but it was more that I just always forgot about it. I am also not sure how to just search for beer on it; I have to google "[beer] untappd" to get it. But looking at Beeradvocate now, it is so laughably out of date. It's truly going to **** without all of the people that they banned. I am rather shocked, even though I shouldn't be.

Also, untappd handle is: cammikebrown if you wanna add me!

There's a search box on the top right of the webpage, though you might need to be logged in to use it, I dunno. On the app the search bar is pretty obvious (and central) so I assume you don't mean that.

Ah, got it, thanks! Cookies were disabled, I'm at work., it kept not letting me log in. We're good now.

What does everyone think of the Top Beers list on untappd as opposed to BA and RB? Better? Worse? The same? **** lists?

I find lists helpful when I see a beer that I've never heard of that seems to appeal to me stylistically and wonder whether or not it's worth $15/375mL or whatever.

It helps with some of my friends who see beer as "If it's expensive, it must be good! Like Mikkeller!"

Oof.

To elaborate, Untappd has a lot more reviews, so I find it to be more thorough. BA tends to have more elaborate reviews though. Untappd is mostly just check-ins.

I was at a beer and cheese thing recently that was full of non beer people but a guy next to me noticed me on untappd. He asked me how many uniques I had.

I gave him a rough figure and he kinda smirked and announced to everyone in ear shot that we needed to keep in mind he worked in beer and goes to a lot of events before proudly telling us how many uniques he had.. like he was now king of beer at the table.

Stupidly, it was heaps less than what I told him.

(Cool story, me)

Question: When checking into a beer, and I change the rating, why does it revert to the last rating I gave it instead of the current not rating? I tried to go back and change it afterwards but I can't change it to no rating. Is checking into a beer but not rating it after you've had it not allowed?

If this has already been addressed, just link me to the last time please. Thanks.

Edit: 2nd question: What's the deal with checking into lambic and bottled on dates? I mean, if a bottle of Kriek has a date of 11/13, that means it was blended and bottled on said date, and so you should check into _____ Kriek (2013), right?

I've never experienced this, seems like a cache issue, you could ask on the support forum.

Right, has anyone said otherwise?

Actually, I was referring to a post you made on the lambic thread a while ago. I just didn't find it. Something about how people kept checking into the wrong dates or something. That's why I asked.

Oh, that's for the LP stuff, like mrk_d said. Since they have the stickers on them most people go off of that, but sometimes they get referred to by bottling date. Normally bottling date makes sense, but with the giant sticker on the front...

This happens to me also. Please let us know if you figure it out.

So here's what I found out from "Greg."
http://help.untappd.com/discussions/problems-mobile/1587-rating-on-previous-check-ins

Basically once you rate a beer you can't bring it back down to zero or "no rating." Per the guidelines, "You cannot remove a rating on a beer once you rated it. For example, if you rated it a 5, but then try to change it to a 0 - it will not work."

It's a bummer, but at least now I know.

That's really stupid (but I generally find the Untappd rating system to be pretty stupid). I frequently want to give a beer no rating. If I have two batches of Susan at HF, and the first one was five stars, and the second was four stars, I want to give them those ratings (and I can, although it doesn't preserve the first rating as it should). However, if I have a, say, Hoponius Union, it's a 4.5 star, and then I have a ****** keg of it improperly stored at a bar, I want to give that no rating. And I can't. Which is dumb. I understand what they're doing, but beer ratings should be a living thing, not one rating that represents the end-all-be-all of how you feel about that beer.

I also have a lot of... shall we say... embarrassing reviews from a couple years ago, when the app was new and I was newer to beer, a lot of 5-stars on stuff like Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale (which is good! Not that good though). I wish I could re-rate them. It doesn't really matter since I tend to like most of the beer I drink and rate almost everything 4 stars or more.

I decided to just stop rating beers when people start asking about why I rated something the way I did. I don't have time to debate a 4.0 vs a 3.0 on my phone while eating dinner with my gf (she hates that). But then again, I guess I could go back and delete the original check in, and just make a new one. Again though, too much work. Whatever.
