If there are vintages of the beer I will check in to the vintages if there is a new vintage. So for 2014 Rose, I will check into that as regular Rose until 2015 is released.
1) I do the same ↑ unless the beer is meant to be different year to year (e.g., Framboise For a Cure).

2) Tracking purposes. Untappd is primarily my beer memory – I’m an information freak.

Hey guys, quick question for Utappd users. If you could just answer the following for me it'd be helpful:

1) Do you check into "vintage" listings on Untappd? (These are beers like Rose de Gambrinus (2014) as oppopsed to Rose de Gambrinus.)

2a) If yes, why do you so? (Some potential reasons: to track how a given vintage changes through time; to track how a beer changes from vintage to vintage; to boost unique counts; etc.)

1) yes, 2)for exactly the reasons mentioned

2b) If no, why not?

1) Yes

2) Primarily for the reason you've listed, I like to track how beers are changing from my cellar. Also I'm a ticker...

example last check in: http://untappd.com/user/mateolibbeysi5/checkin/98640020
*I've probably checked in Plead the 5th close to a dozen times

That's sort of what they do, but why spend the time implementing that feature if the use case (after-the-fact legitimate location additions) is probably marginal compared to cheating? Given how long it takes to implement needed features, it's understandable that this lags.
I don't think after-the-fact legitimate location additions is that marginal... based on some of the traveling people do for beer these days. Location tagging isn't the most important thing, but it's still fun.
How hard would these feature be? I guess this is more a question bout 4sq.

What DonFrap said. Though sometimes I can't find a vintage (or find it til after I checkin) so I dgaf. I also piggyback a lot, esp. on Crescens and Lutter .
Then what LukeAleTime said about seasonals; only do a vintage it's different, I'm piggybacking, or I want more ticks (the number of which I don't care about inflating, it's just fun).

Probably not very, you'd just need to enter some approximate GPS coordinates or something, but I don't know how this works. But like I said, if you really want to do it, it's not hard, so I don't really see the need to make it easier. Untappd really isn't designed for post-facto use, and my guess is that there won't be much of a change in that direction any time soon.

From the App is there anyway to have quick access to your "favorite" breweries. It gives me an option to like it but to access it and see what ppl have been drinking from them recently it's the same process like looking it up any other time. There's local places I use untappd to look up and sometimes its takes so many steps just to see what a brewery 10 min away from me is pouring.

Also ppl putting in their basements and entering "******* Catalina Wine Mixer" into foursquare and having those listed in there as places around to drink is dumb. It's not cute and you're not helping anyone.

As lame as it sounds I sometimes use untappd to see what bars and breweries have been pouring cause not everyone has their tap list online and instead I have to weed out dumb locations no one will ever go to aka your house or your pool just to find out what local options have available.

I also wanna say I really enjoy Untappd for what it's worth, it has a lot of growth but it seems to have stagnated recently.

It's for vintages... Imagine an Abyss 6 year vertical... It doesn't make sense to check into abyss 6 times

1) usually, yes.
2) definitely to track vintages. I love knowing how cellar-able certain beers are from year to year, and it's really cool to see if there's any kind of consensus about what vintage of whatever beer is supposedly the best. Also, the best example for checking into vintages is a beer like SARA's Cask 200. It purposefully changes with every batch, but is technically the same beer.

1. Yes.

2. All three reasons given.

stupac2 are there some "secret" badges? I was looking at the check-ins from Midnight Sun M and some guy got a 5000 uniques badge, but that's not listed on the website when you click on the badge list.

ok Why the hell can't I search for people via the app, it inly seems to scan the social media I have synched up?

Yes, but I wasn't aware of that one. The founders have a few unique ones.

If a beer has vintages, then the first time I check into it, I tick the main listing and the listing for the year I am actually drinking.

Mixed. If I am drinking the beer in the year it is released, I will check into the main entry (unless it is a beer that changes recipe). If it is after the initial year, I'll go with the proper vintage.

Good question!

1) Depends...I usually check both versions first (the standard and the vintage) to see what others are doing, but ultimately I go on my gut. Now that I think about it, I'm more likely to go with the vintage on stouts and porters, not so much with IPAs.

2) Definitely to keep track of what I've had. It's not uncommon to do a mini-vertical at a bottle share or tasting, especially with darker beers, so I find it handy to use verticals for them. I don't mind running my 'unique' count up, though, either.

Cheers!

Any chance we might see a 'serving type' option in the future? It'd be nice if the app had a drop-down or something on check-ins to denote whether the beer was on tap, from a cask, on a nitro tap, from a bottle, growler etc. (yes, believe it or not, some people actually care to keep track of this stuff). Thanks in advance.

I've wanted that for a while but I haven't heard about it. Suggest it on the Untappd support group.

If there are vintages of the beer I will check in to the vintages if there is a new vintage. So for 2014 Rose, I will check into that as regular Rose until 2015 is released.

The only exception to this is if someone I am drinking with checks in before me (which is typical) and then I piggyback off of whatever they did because I am super lazy.
