What a prick. Whoops better get a shot with the bottles

Coors Light Bro also brought this along to cleanse the palate:

After a few vintages of St Lam and Lambiek Special we decided to get serious:

After a short SARA and De Garde palate break, it was time to hit the lambic again. Old raspberries taste good:

A very bromantic candlelit dinner:

And dessert beer #1, before getting into the hottub with a trio of Lou Pepes:

Then real dessert (passionfruit cheesecake) came out with The Statement. Then we passed around a bottle of Parabola as we packed up for the night.

All in all, a ****** night with Rutager Lurkaholic montrealbcr89 . Thanks for nothing, guys.
very nice. Leme get some highlights!

1. Lente - so drinkable. sweeter, vanilla / almondy notes
2. Winter - light, citrus, more restrained lente
3. Zomer - like a minerally, more complex lente
4. Herfst - hints of dark berries. fairly different than the other three.

All 4 were incredible.

-50n needed about an hour to decant. Had a real farty/marzipan thing going on at first, but that disappeared completely. Really interesting, one of the most unique beers I've ever had.
-Framboos was ridiculous. So fruity still, tons of funk. "Like licking smashed raspberries off a piece of old wood"
-I preferred Lambiek Special to both vintages of St Lamvinus and a few people agreed with me.
-Vigneronne was not an acid bomb at all like we were expecting. Drinking really nicely. Rose 2012 was glorious, ridiculously jammy.
-LPF was unbelievable. LPK was getting pretty sour, would be better to have fresh. LPG was great but a bit acetic which held it back for me.
-A&T was arguably the best beer of the tasting. Lemon/Lime brightness for days.

As for the non-lambics, Cherry Marionberry Bu is the best de Garde I've ever had. Orchard Bu is up there as well. Both are insane. Believe the hype. Tequila Mexican Cake was also crazy good, it absolutely put Parabola to shame.

Never thought Ann would live up to the hype, but it was incredibly mellow. Double Dry Hopped Melcher St is the best IPA I've had. Le Sarrasin, Art, Flora are all perfect saisons in their own ways. The Statement Reserve tastes like getting kissed by YHWH. Cali Brandy Hunah was just boring. Florence is probably my favorite shelf saison from HF. Nice tasting.

Agreed on A&T being possibly the beer of the night. Zomer really stood out for me from the Seasons. Lente was quite a bit "lighter" or less complex than the previous time I had it. I think Lurkaholic said it was "crushable." If I had to rank them from 1-4, I'd say Zomer, Winter, Lente, Herfst. Tequila MC was delicious and Framboos was so funky and stinky. An absolute treat. The 3 year difference between the St. Lams was surprisingly almost unnoticeable. Would have been cool to do those two blind.
Both deGardes were absolutely ridiculous. Orchard bu was straight up Oasis fruit juice. Whale stone fruits.

Totally worth putting up with Lurkaholic for an evening.

Ps: sorry for pouring myself a pint of A&T.
Not sorry. :)

"Ooooh look at me! I'm so fancy! I have to drink it out of a 3F tumbler that I brought with me, it's totally the same size as these snifters we've been using! Oh WHOOPS looks like there isn't enough to go around for some reason haha *glug*"

...I'm just jealous I didn't think of it first. And he totally shared it. LYMI.

For me it was A&T > Lente >>> Zomer > Winter >>>>>> Herfst.

And the only thing that I don't think was mentioned earlier that Rutager mentioned and I agreed with - the 2008 LPK, while still an amazing cinammon cherry pie of a lambic, didn't feel like it had really benefitted from the aging.

Bonus picture of montrealbcr89 being the rustic philosopher he is on a swingset

Great tasting last night with skrip , jaken0ss , facesnorth and a couple other friends. Personal highlights for me were 1997 vigneronne, 1999 og, 2000 og and M. Did season set blind and ranked Zomer>Winter>Lente>Herfst. It was unfortunately a bad bottle of herfst.

Had a great share with Rado, mrbubbler, Coolioman, drewone and a few others yesterday, which gave me the opportunity to take some pictures, many of them horrible.

Went to a Side Project tasting over the weekend:

GAdtPSC.jpg

Favorites of the 375ml were Blanc de Blancs and Unblended. Overall though I think for my taste, the Side Project 375ml sours are a little too sour.

8KcCq9u.jpg

The fruited Fermiers were much more my style and I thought the Abricot was the standout, very soft beers with great fruit presence. The Derivations we're really damn good. Blend 1 had this rich, sweet, chocolatey thing, with a light smokey, and natural vanilla presence. Not really sure I got much maple out of it. Blend 2 added over the top vanilla into the situation. I think I prefer Blend 1 over 2 only because of this.

pCuUKzL.jpg

The Ventures and Project were probably a little over the hill at this point. The Project was tasting a little oxidized, and I'd say Venture 2 with no Lacto was the best of the group. I wish Biere du Pays was a type of thing that was regularly available, at 4% it's really amazing.

Q6NaGVE.jpg

Anabasis ranks up there with my favorite barleywines, Great and Aaron. Wasn't big on Origins as it had this red wine quality going on that didn't mesh well with the rest of the flavors. Black and Wild on the other hand was a great sour stout that had this chocolate covered tart cherry thing going on. Orviamo was nice to try, but give me an Imperial Bu over it any day.

4V4WJyn.jpg

Merci was an awesome beer that had a beautiful bright lemony tartness going on with a nice earthy funk to balance it out.

Stuff between SP beers
3qFGiDh.jpg

Four Roses Cake is damn good. There was no spice to be found, but is was a great brownie-like BA stout. This bottle of Flora BB was pretty bad in my opinion. Big Band-Aid presence. The French Toast was a bit of a letdown for me as well. I've heard people describe it like licking a piece of French toast while this was thin, harsh, and boozy.

evqXEFK.jpg

Veritas 007 had no idea what to expect coming into this and got puckeringly sour tart grapes on the taste. Wasn't a big fan of Wednesday as it was way too smoky. Thursday was awesome as it had this huge cinnamon presence, but in terms of Cycle stouts, it doesn't come close to Nooner 8. Growler was HF Double Citra which is always a pleasure.

Not pictured was the amazing view, great company, and awesome marinated short ribs. While available to us, every remaining bottled Side Project beer not pictured did not get touched as well as the rest of the Weekdays from Cycle. We lost too many people through the night. Still though... 10/10 Would definitely bang this tasting again.

After a fun day of great company and beers, the only proper thing to do is run it back, amirite SocalKicks? Spent Sunday hanging out with friends including JonathanAmes, benbikes4beer, Sage, and numerous others drinking some beers:

2015-06-08%20Tasting.png

Personal highlights were the Casey stuff (first Fruit Stand and Oak Theory series beers for me), Veritas 010 (still lots of peach/nectarine, surprisingly soft in the finish), Imperial Raz Bu (so amazingly jammy), Cellarman (am I crazy to think it's the best representation of a non-fruited BA saison?), and West Ashley (always a treat). Kind of sad Monday arrived so quickly.

That's a monster share. I'm jelly.

I maintain that Abricot du Fermier should have been called Saison du Fapricot

This was a long weekend, but most of the work done was just us. Also not pictured were multiple KBS and IPAs.

Highlights were of course Prop and VR. Virgin Cherry and Chevalier were both solid, and that Golden Blend was funky as ever
Man in the back is father-in-law. Did not know what "down in front!" meant. Zero Fuxx

Apricot tasting in the middle with Grrrz v West Ashley v Map of the Sun.. Apricot Grrrz is head, shoulder, knees, and, toes above the competition. Its not even close, should even be compared. The level of soft juicy fruit that exudes from the nose continues through the entire drink. Fantastic, easily the best beer of 2015 that I have had.
