Brett stole my camera and started taking photos. I think we found a new Photo for his Tinder Profile pic.

Personal Highlights:
  • Doesjel '06 stole the show. Nicely carbonated, bright juicy and oaky
  • '03 OGV and Armand & Tomme tied for 2nd. OGV was basement must and funk maybe edged out A&T
  • Winefication was interesting but maybe too sweet for me. would love to see more wine+beer blends
  • Fantome is back. I've had a lot of it lately and all of the '14 bottles are delicious. hoping more arrive stateside soon
  • The tall boy of Coors Light was bad...just bad.
  • '01 LP Framboise, jammy as all hell and balsamic, acidic but still super interesting and fun to try.
Thanks guys for coming over. it was an awesome tasting.
Where is this place? I want to drink there.

Tasting group get-together last night. No picture of all the dead soldiers because I suck, but here are some highlights:

The Ume, Yuzu and Sakura lambics from OMA brewery. I know these don't get a lot of love here but we all thought they were the tits. Great, distinct fruit flavors, mellow tartness, not quite like anything else.

My first De Garde, had been gathering dust in the cellar. Outstanding!

Another oddball hit. Strong pine flavor, wood, and balanced tartness.

Those last two were courtesy of csano - I finally got around to drinking them!

LOVED the Yuzu when I had it a few weeks ago.

I didn't know this thread existed! Awesome :)

This was last night, minus Mexican Cake '14, which I broke at 1:30 AM while trying to clean in the dark.

L-R in order of consumption

Persica 2013 blend 1
Persica 2013 blend 2
2013 Fou Foune
Upland Peach
New Belgium Eric's Ale
Halia
Veritas 013
2014 Filmishmish
Transmitter F3
HF Mary
FW Opal
Upland Strawberry
Surly Blakkr
Kane ANTEAD Vanilla
2014 BVDL

Some thoughts:
While not as start a difference as b1 vs b2 Atrial Rubicite, I was surprised at how noticeable the difference between the two Persica blends was (also: no appreciable diacetyl in either)

Upland Peach was super tasty. I hadn't gotten to try any of the Upland fruited lambics until recently, but every one that I've had (Kiwi, Raspberry, Strawberry, Peach) has been great.

Veritas 013 was very good, but the cork could have killed someone if Gene had been pointing the bottle in a different direction. Keep on keepin' on Tomme Arthur

We finished the night by doing a blind tasting of the ANTEAD Vanilla and BVDL, and as much as I love Kane (and the ANTEAD releases this year), it wasn't even close for me. Bourbon Vanilla Dark Lord is quite possibly the best stout I've ever had. Chewy, marshmallow and chocolate goodness.

Agreed, BVDL was essentially an order of magnitude better than anything else I've had in that category. So rich and sweet, yet totally refined. One interesting note regarding the ANTEAD: While everyone in the group could tell a clear difference between the two beers blind, there were some at the table who picked incorrectly.

Did a tasting for my buddy's Birthdays and this is what we crushed.

Ensorcelled
Sucre
Lawson's Maple Tripple
Lawson's Spring Fever Session IPA

Oui Oui
Saison Dupont Cuvee 2014

I apologize for my ****** pictures but a great weekend of drinking nonetheless.

Another bottle share for the Rangers game. Another loss. Womp womp

waTR77b.jpg

Two Roads Urban Funk
Alchemist Beelzebub
HF Twilight of the Idols 2012
August Schell Framboise du Nord
Grassroots Brother Soigne (11/13)
Lost Abbey Cuvee de Flatee

In case you couldn't tell, Cuvee was super disappointing. Drain pour on my end as I was already pissed with the Rangers and just wanted to get to the Brother. Urban Funk was pretty damned good. That 2012 Twilight is tasting pretty damn great right now. Was very impressed with August Schell. Beelzebub was too hopped for my tastes.

Tasting last weekend w/ DmouthCaliBrewz and Number45 I think we opened more but honestly can't remember

Beat B5 & B6

Favorite beers were Flora, CW16 and Beatification. Norma always improving and I was really impressed (had low expectations) in the Bruery Tripel.
Also, for our bottles at least, it was amazing how much better Beat b5 was compared to b6. Didn't even taste like the same beer. B5 was drinking among best American wilds I've ever had while B6 was a one-note lemony acetic bomb. Last time I open a Beat without letting it set at least 18 months! (The b5 pours are the slightly darker pour above)

Also, the first B6 I had a few months ago was similarly meh.

Thanks again to Adam Jackson for opening the Flabaer, that was a treat. Good times had by all, #wouldbangagain

:( As someone who's only had b6... ISO Beat b5 FT b6!

Last night's mostly Hill Farmstead tasting:

The Flora b1, b3, and b5 side-by-side was very interesting, with Flora b3 being the clear standout, and b1 being oddly different but not unpleasant. CD6 beat CD5 by a mile, IMO. Mary (growler) surprised everyone in a good way. Standouts for me included Mimosa (possibly the sneakiest 10% beer), Beyond Good and Evil, Biere de Norma b3, Elaborative 1 & 2, and La Vermontoise.

I have always been a big proponent of CD6. I never felt it got as much love as it deserved, mostly due to the high limit (6) at release, so it wasn't seen as "rare" enough. That being said, never in a million years would I say it was even in the same league as CD5, which save for the newly released Le Sarrasin is the best saison I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Regardless, impressive tasting!

Yeah, I've had great bottles of CD5 before, but this one was strangely muted, almost bland.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agree to disagree about CD6 (at least the bottle I had, right after release), but I'm with you that Serrasin is a pretty special beer.
