Agree with everything Bill said. Except the thing about the 2010 Fou Foune. It was perfect. Jammy apricots with a more pronounced sourness than the fresh bottles we drank the next night at Parker Pie. I blame the cold
you had on the first night ;)

Thoughts:

  • It was interesting how different our two bottles of Mimosa were. The first one was what I was expecting for a 2+ year old citrus saison. The second one was shockingly good.
  • "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated. " - Ann. Seriously, it was great. Not as good as it was fresh, sure. But still phenomenal. Right next to CD5 and B5 Flora as the best HF bottles of the weekend.
  • Despite only planning on opening one bottle of SHBRL this weekend, it turns out that even two bottles isn't enough. Absolutely fantastic and perhaps my favorite beer of the entire weekend.
  • 2014 Bourbon Vanilla Dark Lord was stupid good.
  • So was Apple Brandy Mexican Cake. I was expecting to be let down by the hype machine, but it's seriously an excellent beer.

Like fletch said, we had some great beers and a great time drinking them. Fletcher, Bill, Scott and JR are super generous folks to share all their excellent beer with us. Already looking forward to next year....
Good stuff!! Agree with the BRL comment. I could drink a boss pour of that daily. Such an amazing beer. And damn it I just traded my Ann to jcvanderbilt

Tonight I discovered that 1v1willwreku is actually a real person and not just the beer He-man figment of my imagination. We were lost in each others loins for the better part of 5 hours but somehow managed to stop kissing long enough to keep hydrated with a couple shelf turds.

The dreamtime we shared together was cut far too short. But it was an encounter I will not soon forget. As we parted ways, I found myself starting to miss the sweet, warm embrace...but I dare not let this Austrian Oak see the tear swell up in my eye.

Gotta admit, both of these evaluations are about as spot on as they can be. SHBRL stole the show for me personally. I think Flora 5 was the best HF bottle. West Ashley was the biggest surprise for me. CDs 1-3 were tremendously disappointing, and Framboos may have been the biggest letdown of the weekend.

All-in-all, probably the best week of beer drinking in my life.

Do it again next week, fellas?

14158469927_87b319d1ca_b.jpg

Personal Highlights:
  • Doesjel '06 stole the show. Nicely carbonated, bright juicy and oaky
  • '03 OGV and Armand & Tomme tied for 2nd. OGV was basement must and funk maybe edged out A&T
  • Winefication was interesting but maybe too sweet for me. would love to see more wine+beer blends
  • Fantome is back. I've had a lot of it lately and all of the '14 bottles are delicious. hoping more arrive stateside soon
  • The tall boy of Coors Light was bad...just bad.
  • '01 LP Framboise, jammy as all hell and balsamic, acidic but still super interesting and fun to try.
Thanks guys for coming over. it was an awesome tasting.

Thoughts on Between the Staves?

Looks like a fun share!

Very cool thing. Any consensus favorites among the newbs?

Unanimous favorite was Prolegomena, followed by MC4, bourbon and port Damons, and Norma.

Batch 1 Clara (pre-blue label Arthur) was a personal special treat. Satsuma is (somewhat surprisingly) holding up well. Still lots of citrus.
