I feel I am good at sanitizing and doing the right thing for Mashing. I still get some off flavor (band aid) off flavors in my beer. I am in the process of deep cleaning my pots and hoses (probably get new high temperature hoses to replace the ones I have)
My question is that the boil should kill off anything bad in my beer but what can I get as far as off flavors after the boil?

Arbe0,

Is the water that you are using chlorinated or chloraminated (or whatever it is called when chloramines are used to treat water)? If so, that'll lead to a band-aid or plastic-like flavor to your finished beer. So, it may not be an infection you're after - it may be chemicals in your source water.

Hi Pliny,
sorry about not looking at this for a while, kind of busy.
I draw my water at least a day in advance and let it set out in an open container and use Campden tablets in the HLT.
Got a water report from Ward labs and use .5 grams of Gypsem to adjust the water along with some acidulated malts for my adjustment.

Letting it sit out won't do anything for chloramines but the campden should work well. Maybe post your water report to see if there is something else going on?

Doesn't look like it's the water. However you might have contaminated hoses. I just replaced mine after I had several beers tasting like dirty socks and I found black "stuff" in my racking hose. It's good practice to replace all hoses and rubber parts every year or two to be safe.

ya I just cleaned all my pots and took apart all the spigots and anything attached to the pot. Even went convinced my wife that I needed a new pot (anvil 10 gallon). Spent money on new hoses (need to cut to length and put the quick connects on them) I am hoping that will fix the problem.
