i just took a gravity reading to see were im at, i smelt and drank some of the beer/wort i used for the reading and it smelled like deisel or paint thiner kinda. not realy strong but still noticable. i know im fermenting at too high of a temp (about 80 d.) but what is the reason for those off flavors im getting besides that? is it infected or just tempature? will it weaken when i age it in the secondary?

High temperature during fermentation will do that. If you leave it on the yeast for a couple more weeks, there is some chance that the yeast will clean up some of the fusel alcohol that they've created.

I got beer with the same problem. Fermented to high a temp.

Let it sit for 5 weeks in primary. Went to keg for 2 weeks.

2 days ago nasty. Yesterday nasty. Today the smell and nastyness almost gone. Hop flavor is coming back. Prolly be pretty good beer in a week.

It'll be fine

Sounds like your beer smells just like mine does. I just kegged my first batch. It didn't smell great, but I know I let it ferment at too high a temp. I hope it gets better w/ age. Good luck w/ yours.
