Odd Wort Immersion Chiller Question

I'm pretty new and looking at buying an immersion chiller, however I don't really have a place to hook the thing up to my sink. My faucet has the sprayer built inline and the nearest other faucet is down a small flight of stairs and I'm not that comfortable with the idea of carrying 5 gallons of boiling liquid to get there.

I have a possible plan of installing another line (i'm not that handy when it comes to plumbing) or t-ing off my laundry line which is directly below my kitchen and drilling a hole to run a line through there. All in all this involves some modifications to my home that I'm not entirely sure I want to do.

My alternate plan of attack with this is to use some kind of water pump in a bucket of water in the other end of my sink that's constantly being filled by my faucet tap. I've looked at small aquarium/fountain pumps as well as some drill pumps that might work.

My question here is: has anyone done this? Any reasons using a pump wouldn't work?

the sprayer on your faucet doesn't unscrew? I use a garden hose but I used to have to take the cap off my faucet and hook an adapter to it.

Is there a window nearby? If so, run the garden hose in and hook it up. Low tech but effective at zero additional cost.

Hello, the end of your faucet in the sink should un-screw, this is the tip where the water comes out, if you grab it with a pair of channel locks and turn it clockwise looking down on it, it should unscrew, thats how you clean the screen when it gets clogged.

They have adapters that screw right into the sink and have hose threads on the other end, I have one on my kitchen faucet.

I've considered running a hose and that's definitely an option in the summer, however I'm up north where we'll be consistently at, below, or near freezing for the entire duration of winter. I'm fairly confident the hose bibs are not frost free ones.

Yeah I'll give another look at the faucet, unfortunately it came with the house when I bought it so I don't have any kind of documentation or model to go off on.

My kitchen faucet is also a removable sprayer style (Hansgrohe). I remove the aerator and hook my immersion chiller to it using an small one-piece adapter.

I can't imagine a faucet that doesn't have a removable aerator; seems like that's a requirement of faucets actually.

Do you happen to know what brand/model faucet you're working with?

It is a lot easier simply connecting to a faucet than filling a bucket and running a pump, especially since it might take more that one bucket to chill your wort to the correct temp.

No you're not ------------ just a jerkwad

The vast majority of faucet aerators run on a standard size, so you should be clear just getting one garden hose adaptor. There are a few brands (kohler and price fister are the worst) that make up their own sizes which would require you to get an adapter from them. In which case it might be cheaper to tap in to the line under the sink and add a tee to hook into with a hose.

Only 1 adapter for the faucet end, as far as I know
