The Boston media is turning very Red Sox-ey on the Patriots now that baseball season is over for them. With the tone of the coverage last night, you'd have thunk that the Pats got their asses whomped, Ravens-style, instead of grinding out a tough, ugly win against a team that's been playing decent football. The defensive backfield is still atrocious, but... well, even Achilles had that little weakness on his heel. They'll get better. But man, the coverage is brutal for a team that's still been more successful than not this year.

And, I'm sure glad that BB didn't panic like the friggin' media and drop Gostkowski after week 2.

pats fans talking about the d-backs "getting better"?

is it 2010 in here?

I dunno Bird...

here's what I saw yesterday...

I saw a Pats offense that looked like a 500-team offense at best. They ran for over 100 and passed for something like 250 and two TDs which isn't horrible but they looked like crap. The Jets D isn't scary and the Pats, at no point, looked like they were in control. The Defense is horrific. The run defense was mediocre, giving up just over 100 yards but the pass defense continues to be the worst I've ever seen. They get ZERO pressure. Sanchez had some much time in the pocket he could have sat down, read a few pages of a book, made a cup of coffee, drank it, looked up, found a receiver and threw to them. It was insane. On top of that, the shtty zone defense the Pats play leaves guys wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide open with no one within 15 yards of them. If it wasn't for a half a dozen embarrassing drops by the God-awful Jets WRs, they would have hung 40 points on the Pats.

The Pats are not a good football team right now at all. Up until yesterday, I was still drinking the Kool-Aid... thinking, "meh... they're finding their rhythm, they'll be fine. The three loses they have are by a combined four points, they just need to sharpen up a bit"... but after yesterday??? Yucccccccccccccck. They looked horrible and has ZERO business winning that game. Luckily the Jets sucked way worse right at the end and the Pats pulled it out.

They are traveling to London this week to play a horrible Rams team which they can hopefully get lucky against and then they have a bye week, which is perfectly timed. Get Gronk and Hernandez 100% healthy and hopefully try to do SOMETHING on the freaken defensive side of the ball or else the second half of the season will be a train wreck.

Now... some folks might be thinking, "What?? Cape is saying something bad about the Pats???"

You gotta remember... when I say, "The Pats look horrible" or "They're not a good football team right now"... that is in the context of... "FOR THE PATS". I mean, for any other team, how they look right now would be a Godsend. Fans of other teams pray to look "as bad" as the Pats do right now, so, it's all relative. They just look horrible FOR THEM. We expect them to blow teams out every single week (as they should be doing) so when that doesn't happen, it's a shock to the system and we react the way I just did.

Regardless, in the long run (meaning after today), I can't see them losing another game.

So, I noticed a couple things too, that got me wondering. There were a couple replays last night where the Pat's DB's were plainly playing man D, and they had good freaking coverage - breaking up passes (novel freaking concept!) and everything. And then they'd go right back into zone, with gigantic holes, and give up 13 yards and a first down. So I suspect there's something going on scheme-wise that the coaches need to get figured out. Except for Arrington. Dude's a bum.

But Brady had me worried in the first half. He was throwing a LOT of errant passes - is it his passing shoulder that's been nagging him lately or something? The killer may have been one pass to Lloyd - he got free on a slant, looked like he had nobody in his way, and if Brady had hit him in stride, I think he may have had an open field and a pretty easy TD. But the throw came in real low and behind him, forcing him to come back and dive to try and make the catch. And the announcers are going on about how the throw was "right on target, Lloyd just has to come up with that catch". I was really kind of wondering what game they were watching at that particular moment. When it came down to the last 5 minutes of the game though, when it really mattered, he made the throws that mattered. I just miss the days when he made damn near all of 'em, and I'm looking forward to the return of those days.

And McDaniels' playcalling has got to get better, right? I swear, he's trying to be unpredictable for the sake of being unpredictable at times. "Hmmm, it's 3rd and long, they'll never expect a short pass!" Of course they'll never expect a short pass, because a short pass will almost never get the 11 freaking yards you need to convert first down, moronus.

I think whatever's going on with the players, they can get over (save Arrington, see bum). But the coaches have got to pull their heads out if the Pats are to return to the level of dominance that we've all grown accustomed to.

Rams defense was pretty good, flying around and a lot of pressure. I wouldn't put them in horrible category at 3-4. And Bradford isn't a Sanchez.

First ray Lewis, now Charles Woodson. How many more, Mr Speaker, how many more senior citizens are going to be hurt in this game before we play with flags?

You should be an Ad Man. That is hilarious!!

Chicago's defense is playing unreal. My first glance at them. Not bad for a bunch of queers...

Wtf?

Ok, ok. No offense intended...

How about those Pats! sick OT win at the Jets. Oh wait that was at home? Oh man. I would be worried

Yo, Hoppydude, you watching this D? You say they're playing unreal, as a fan of the team, I say "meh". This isn't their best performance by far. Peanut is handling up on Megafraud though, that's for sure. Stafford truly sucks, and the Lion's RB loves to drop the ball (as does their punt "returner", apparently), so..... BTW, you watching the game? See the "hard running"............. by two backs? Football, my friend, football.

Yeah. They (defense) played better in the first half. Lions ineptitude definitely a factor. And I see nothing like Lynch in this game. Running fast through holes until someone hits you is not what talking about. Hitting the LB at the line of scrimage and getting the same yardage is....

Not taking anything away from Forte by any means. Great back. Tough runner. Just not lynch. I MAY be biased. But I don't think so....

Also, I think your comfort in knowing the game is in hand has led you to under emphasize your own defense just to make a point. Sorry for the compliment. Your next seahawks compliment will be your first...

I probably did understate the defense, they were very good tonight, but not nearly as exciting as when they're that good and scoring. I also didn't like how the ST's line gave up a block and a near block, not cool in a low scoring game. As for a compliment for the 'Hawks, I will gladly give a few; Russell Wilson shows promise, the defense is surprising this year and they have a shot at the division. They're not a bad team, but they're not nearly the team that some folks (talking heads, no one here on Trash Talk ;) ) were jumping on the band wagon for in week 3 and 4.
