I brewed a Newcastle clone last week. It was a Northern Brewer extract kit with specialty grains. The ingredients can be found here. My OG ended up at 1.054 (adjusted to 60*F), and fermentation seemed to go quite well. By day 7, it hadn't shown much airlock activity in a couple days and I racked to secondary. SG is 1.018 (@60) and it has stayed there for the last few days with no visible fermentation activity (the beer is clear, and there isn't a single bubble on the surface).

Does 1.018 seem like a normal FG for this style of beer? I'm going to let this one clear out in the secondary for another 2 weeks before bottling, but I'm just curious about the FG because my last beer (a hefe) ended up a few points higher than I think it should have been. I'm hoping I don't have a technique or environment problem.

1.018 gives you 65.5% attenuation, and your yeast should attenuate at 68-72% so I'd expect it to drop a couple of more points if your og was 1.054.

When I run your recipe through Beersmith, though, it shows the OG should have been 1.065 with the DME, 1.054 without it. If you used both the DME and LME, your actual og would have been 1.065. Maybe you didn't mix it thoroughly?

So, at 1.065 og, right now your yeast would be 71% attenuated, which would be done.

The advertised OG on the kit is even a couple points lower than what I ended up with. Is Beersmith assuming the grains are being fully mashed? Really they are just being steeped for about 15 minutes so I don't think they are contributing as much to the gravity or % of fermentable sugars in the wort. I'm fairly confident everything was mixed well throughout the process.

This is the actual output on Beersmith. Seems to be different than Lorena's. Dunno! but it looks like you should be OK. Expect to drop at least 1 point and check your calculations on adjustments. Sometimes the adjustments can throw off those indications.

Here is the output:
