I've never used either of those. But I make 30+ lbs all the time with the meat grinder attachment on my kitchenaid mixer. I wonder if the reason yours doesnt work as well might have to do with the sharpness of the cutter? Maybe you can put a better edge on the blade?
BTW the more expensive model you show at NT has less HP than the cheaper one. I assume your just paying for the SS prettyness.
 
I just got a 1/4hp LEM from Academy and it works outstanding. I put two 50# wild pigs through it without a hiccup this past Sunday. It's cheaper then the cabelas commercial ones and is more than adequate for the occasional user and has all metal gears. Only drawback is no reverse, but i doubt you'll stop it up. They also make lots if attachments for it. My last NT grinder stripped out the plastic gears when it got a piece of bone in it, they are real crap and they over-rate the motors.
