I am looking at this as my 2nd batch after I get my current one in bottles. I was going to add some orange just to try something different.

Should I do sweet orange or bitter?

When should I add it? I want some orange flavors but not a slap you in the face taste.
 
try orange zest from 2 oranges in the last 15 min of the boil, it will be subtle and not over powering on the flavor.
 
Bitter orange will give you more flavor. If you are using fresh sweet oranges, use the zest only, and use it late in the boil or at flameout.
 
I've brewed this twice and with the 2nd batch I tried adding sweet orange peel to primary and it contributed absolutely nothing to it. Not sure if adding it to the boil would extract some nice flavor or if adding it to a secondary would be a good option. If I were to do it again I'd use plenty of peel in a 1-2 week long secondary.

The kit is a great choice, it was the first brew I made that didn't ferment in a little brown keg. I've had several compliments on the batches I've brewed and I'm attempting to make a 3 gallon mini/partial mash version of it right now.
 
For a fresh hop & orange Cascade Pale ale I used the zests of three of the best smelling oranges at the grocery store. Scratched them with a fingernail. They went in with the 8oz of wet hops for a 1/2hr hopstand.

At bottling I used McCormicks Natural Orange extract to supplement the flavor. In the bakers section. I think I used 1/2oz in 5gal.

Six months later the orange aroma is great, the taste barely there.
