@Dgallo mentioned The Warbler, and I will second that. It's a small operation - only 2 official employees. But the head brewer/owner has been in the business since his college days. I'm a little biased as I've become good friends with him, but the beer is (mostly) objectively very good and well made, and he actively supports the local homebrew scene. Thursday (tonight obviously) is Trivia night which I'm always at. I'm usually there at some point fridays and saturdays as well, so if you make it there, feel free to send me a message. Maybe Dgallo can get out of the house as well

Suarez Family Brewing! It's just outside of Hudson, not Albany but it blew me away when I was there last year. Drive 3 hours after landing in Boston and checking out Trillium and Vitamin Sea. Though, Suarez doesn't make hazy's... I still dream about that pilsner I had there.

Only been there once myself, but their beers aren't too hard to find. Yes, they do VERY well made lower abv styles that are nearly flawless. I did a tour there and they had just added new tanks recently. The head brewer said: "When most breweries add more tanks, it's so they can make more beer. We added more tanks so we could lager longer". I think that sums up their philosophy nicely.

Ok thanks. I gave that a try. But that technique doesn't allow you to narrow your results to just the recipes portion of the forum. Evening using "recipe" in the search gives results mostly in the forum section. I still think moving it would be beneficial, especially for new brewers coming to the site looking for recipes.

If you ask what you're shooting for most likely someone will post a recipe for you. There are so many variations at this point.

Thanks. That was going to be my next step. I've got it figured out now. But it was made more difficult by this recipe thread screwing with the search. So just thought I would mention it. I was mostly just looking for recipes using specific leftover hops and yeast I already had in my fridge and want to get rid of. As I have hadn't built a hazy recipe before or used any of this stuff in a hazy just wanted to see if others had and what flavors they give.

I brewed with some 2023 Galaxy from YVH and it was amazing, although I went a bit heavy on the hops and had to wait about 4 weeks for the hop burn to calm down a bit.

On the other hand, I tried to brew with some 2023 Nelson Sauvin from YVH and it was awful, just disgusting. The beer to me had a woody/jalapeno spice without the spicy burn, not sure how better to describe it.

To try and rule out other issues with this particular brew, I made "hop tea" with each of the individual hops I used by putting 2g of pellets in 3/4 cup of just boiled hot water. The Citra and Citra lupomax were ok, but the Nelson was gross.

Questions:

1. Was my "hop tea" a good way to test if these hops were any good? Other suggestions?
2. Has anyone ever returned a bag of "bad hops" to YVH? If so, how did that go?

I think it was your Nelson. I had a bag of 2023 Nelson from YVH do the same thing to me that I ended up throwing out. I’ve seen this from Nelson a couple times. Bright with Nelson from tree house is one of my favorite beers but I recall a batch that had this flavor a couple years back that was so bad I couldn’t drink it. To me I don’t get jalapeño but woody/spicy.

Saurez is great. For those not familiar with saurez, the owner and brewer Dan was Shawn hills right hand man at hill farmstead and was the one that really got their funk/country beer project Off and running. His beers are absolutely perfect. That said, the brewery is a good 40-50 from Albany and to be honest, the taproom is very pretentious and yuppy. I genuinely don’t like the vibe in there. Def worth a visit but in my opinion it’s not the type of brewery you frequent besides picking up beer. Thankfully in our area, Delaware Supply (amazing taproom/bottle shop that is annually chosen for Zwannze day) usually has between 4-8 offerings from them in cans or bottles

Glad to hear I’m not the only one! This is the first genuinely undrinkable batch I’ve had in a long time.

Sounds amazing! Curious what year and brand of Strada you have. I had used YCH's 2020 but wasn't thrilled with it.

It was 2022 Yakima Valley Hops. I got 2 lbs on a flash sale and they were great. I also had the 2020 batch and wasn't a huge fan.

Anybody have experience using Elani hops in a NEIPA? Was planning on trying 2:1 Elani and Nectaron for both WP and DH.

Here's my HBC 1019 single IPA. Small batch (2G) brew. Used at 2oz. whirlpool and 5oz. dry hop. Big orange and tropical fruit on the nose and taste, zero bitterness. This is 6 days after kegging. Sorry for the lighting. This was last night when my wife wanted a pour. The lighting isn't the best.

I just might advise against using nectaron as the pair. Nectaron might throw the nz diesel that could distract from your first time using elani. I would pair it with something like citra for a first time as your probably very familiar with what it brings to the table and you’ll get more knowledge from the beer

Appreciate the advice and I might just do that. Maybe this is a bad idea but I was also considering just using Elani in WP and DH.

I did an Elani heavy beer, probably 75% with a touch of citra, turned out very nice, passionfruit guava notes.

I love nectaron, never gotten that diesel flavor with it.

I haven’t made it yet. So not set on recipe yet. But starting with the base recipe from second update I think. Just subbing some leftover grains I have. Gonna try to save some expired Omega British ale V. Biggest thing I was looking for is I’m going heavy on the Cascade hops. I know it’s not as common of a hazy hop but I’ve got a plant that makes 5 times what I use in a year and always throw it away so want a house beer that uses it up. Gonna mix in some leftover Citra too. Anything else I should mix it?

I love Cascade in hazies. It pairs fantastically with Citra and Simcoe. I'd go double the Cascade to everything else though as the AA% are usually half of Citra/Simcoe.

Yeah and they have to ship it cold too so the shipping is meh. What I got out of that 1ml was pretty fantastic tho. Here's to hoping they offer homebrew sizes shortly because I'd love to experiment with the other varieties

Mouthfeel is great. Chit definitely brought what it should.

Flavor wise. Very peachie on the nose with some classic Nelson notes. Citra def supports the peacherine. Very happy with it.
