I feel guilty going into the LHBS but I already spend a crap ton of money there...well besides my friend good friend Craig and his list...

I had a brief pang of guilt, but it didn't last long. I have no problem buying locally, even if the price is a little higher. But when there's a significant savings, then sorry, I'll buy elsewhere. I had already researched buying bulk from B3 when I was visiting family near their bay area location, so Jay putting this together just made things easier on me.

Ditto on that. We were contemplating driving down to B3 to pick up grain, and even with the cost of gas it was considerably cheaper. When it's close, I'll buy local...if not then I feel like I'm getting gouged, whether that is the case or not.

WOW!!!!
Damn Ed..... I bow to the king of "The bulk buy"!
Who did you all buy from?

That was the third annual Austin Bulk Grain Co-op buy. The first was 1 pallet, the 2nd was 2 pallets and this third one was 4 full pallets of malt.

Each year we have doubled our order from North Country Malt. Next year we will max out at 5 pallets as that is the limit for this truck. :D

any idea what the $/# savings is? I'd love to buy at a cheaper rate.

Well for our buy it was about 1/2 price, or there a bouts. Maybe a little better. Some malt is cheaper than others. But all in all. I had fun putting it together. I got about 900# of grain out of the deal. And I helped a few fellow home brewers get some grain, that they can stock pile in their closets and piss off their SWMBO....Yes THB I am talking about you! LOL:D

LOL, yeah...the walk-in closet full of 14 buckets of malt isn't so popular :D. But hey, she keeps drinking my beer so I'm good!

d@mn Ed, that's a lot of grain. We can only hope to be as awesome as you one day ;)

in other news, i'm definitely getting my value out of the buckets. you can find all sorts of uses for them. My friend borrowed and didn't return the folding tables that usually support our ping pong table top, so i had to improvise.

you better get to brewing man!

Just dug into the first of this bulk grain last weekend; did a 10 gallon batch of Ed's Kolsch. Since I've got 5 kegs in the frige and 5 carboys full, I have no room for more brew :(. I have a group brew day scheduled later this month, so I think next weekend I'll be having a poker night to kill off some of this pesky homebrew laying around! That will free up the pipeline and get me ready for my first foray into lagering!
