Many will argue that refridgerator thermostats aren't good enough either, at least not for lagering. Too wide a temp range before it'll cycle (to save energy).
Real beer isn't meant to be ice cold...you want it in the upper 30's to mid 40's...some styles even warmer than that.
I run my keg freezer at 42F
