haha, you mean that thin long tube of glass couldn't handle the stress of the weighted opposite end being flung around? :confused:.

I have one of those hydrometers meant specifically for measuring final gravity. Really fat on the bottom, and insanely thin on top, I think it would probably snap just by trying to hold it horizontally by the thin part :eek:
 
That's how I broke my first one. Shook it too hard too many times! Good thing I bought a spare with my brew kit.
 
also, don't set the hydrometer in the sink with the weighted end near the drain/disposal. if it falls in and hits the blade bad things happen.
