Is it really possible for a small leak to exist along the lining of the bucket top that would allow CO2 to escape and never bubble up through the air lock? Its been 9 days, and although I didn't take an initial SG, the current SG is 1.010 (which appears to be a normal final SG), plus when I opened the pail to check I got a strong whiff of ALKYHAUL! I just wonder is it safe to drink? This has never happened before and this is my 7th batch.

Totally possible, if the gravity went down and there were no bubbles, it is still beer. I can't really tell you the last time I paid much attention to the airlock.

sometimes my buckets blow the airlock off sometimes I never see a bubble I just pour a homebrew and don't and worry about the trubbles.

I thought the batch was contaminated somehow, but a sample tastes as good as a home brew can taste, which is excellent!
