So,... I've been reading a bunch of articles on no boil (5gal) Berliner Weisse and found a recipe I liked. Called for a 45min mash at 149degs followed by removing 3 1/2 quarts for a 15min Decoction Mash w/the Hops, adding the decoction back to the mash, recirc, sparge and go straight to the fermenter. Like a dumb ass I forgot the hops.

I remembered the hops after adding the Decoction back in the tun and started to recirculate. Like a simpleton, I said "F" it and tossed the Hops into the mash. Two minutes later I had another brilliant idea,.... why not just pull 3 1/2quarts back out, and do the decoction over again, but this time with the hops.

My concern isnt the second proper hop addition (dont think the addition I tossed in the tun will do much), but concerned with the 2nd decoction.

Any thoughts on how this might turn out.

With what regards are you concerned with the 2nd decoction? I can't imagine you'd get much utilization from 3.5 qt decoction boil, even if you happen to have your entire hop load in that 3.5 quarts.

What was your total hopload/predicted IBU? Are you doing kettle souring or doing a sacc/lacto blend pitch? I would venture a guess that the IBU you're going to get won't inhibit the lacto production significantly.

Total Hops = The forgotten 1st decoction addition of .7oz Amirillo (which was tossed into the mash after adding the first decoction back into the tun. And, the .7oz Simco that was added during the 2nd Decoction. Which, means some of the original .7oz Amirillo tossed into the mash was part of the 2nd Decoction. I did a sacc/lacto combined pitch. In hindsight hearing adding the lacto first might have been the way to go and then add the sacc a few days later.
