Well all I can tell so far is that I didn't place and scored at least a 22. I've never entered a competition before, so can anyone tell me if they tell you what # you placed if you weren't in the top 3? I'm mostly in it for the feedback, but it would be cool to know how well I did in the category.

Mine just had my score and that I didn't go on to the BOS round.

So jealous here! Better planning next year and I should do better than I did. Good luck to everyone moving on!

Nope, just a score.

There might be an HM (or maybe a 4) on there if they thought it was a really nice beer but they couldn't place it (3 nicer beers).

Looking at these a little deeper...My Cascadian Dark Ale in cat 23 scored .3 pts lower than the top score in the cat. Must have been a tight race!

Only got one beer entered before the Northeast registration closed

Dopplebock is going to Minneapolis.

Kicking myself in the ass for not registering earlier

That's a really good score. My Vienna was second out of only like 13 entries.

One of my entries was a whiskey-barrel aged Porter that (I think) was waayyy oxidized and was cardboard hell. I just wanted them to tell me it's really oxidation and that I'm not mistaking 'wood' for cardboard. Now that I've had the second Porter from that same barrel it's gotta be oxidation, the second brew doesn't have it. That was my one sacrificial/bad brew that I was pretty certain was really flawed. I'll bet the low score of 22 in that category in the south was mine.

CAP - with some of the hops homegrown!

Last year I advanced in the light lager category. I must be doing something right with my lagers.

It looks like I'm only 1 of 2 Nationwide who listed HBT as their club. Obviously we have others winners on here :mug: but I guess their loyalties are elsewhere, ............sigh ;)

Congrats. You and remilard need to help the rest of us brew light lagers. I can't be sure but I think remilard took 1st and 2nd in the same category. Nothing to hide behind in those light lagers.

I'm a new member in my homebrew club, felt obligated.

FWIW
How the hell can The Brewing Network be a homebrew club?

Where do they meet?
Do they hold club competitions?

How? They registered with the AHA

Where? On the internet

Do they hold club competitions? No, but lots of local clubs don't either.

Nobody complained (at least not loudly) for ten years when Jamil Z brewed for QUAFF and when Gordon Strong brewed for St. Paul. If we are okay with effectively national clubs that have a local base, why are we not okay with a national club with no local base?

Step mashes........... Since there is less going on flavor wise in these beers than most, and the ingredient list is simple, anything one can do to add to the complexity of the finished product makes a difference. With a step mash one can get a beer that is crisp and refreshing, but still has a lot of body.

That's just one form of a club. This message board is some people's club.

"One of the first things to consider is what you hope to accomplish with this club. Most homebrew clubs are founded on any combination of the following three things: social interaction and activities centered on the foundation of homebrewing; education about beer, brewing techniques and expanding brewing horizons; promotion of the hobby and enjoyment of homebrewing."

I'd say the brewing network fits those points pretty well, wouldn't you? I mean I think that most of the people on their shows are super annoying when it comes to banter, but they obviously have a pretty big following, and people are writing them in as their club, much like people would here.

Bud and Miller have huge followings too

Those are suggestions, not requirements.

There are a lot of BN people in the Bay area who do have local personal interaction. They just got dozens of good out of towners to brew for them unlike QUAFF and St. Paul which got a smaller number of great brewers from out of town to brew for them.

They do have outings, the BNA each year.

Unless we require that a club be completely local or you have to live within 100 miles of the address the club is registered under or whatever, I don't see how this is fundamentally different than the status quo except that the BN has more out of town participants than other clubs.
