I have perhaps a silly question that may offset some costs for my new hobby. i am trying to get most of everything as possible before I get going.

I have a friend who is giving me a refrigerator from a convenience store. It is one of those that are used to house Red bull or some other drink. I have not seen it yet, but provided it will fit a carboy or corny keg,do you think this would be ok to use for fermenting. of course I would get a temp controller.

This refrigerator has a glass top, so I guess I would probably have to cover with blanket to keep light out.

I am just getting started on the researchand looking forward to getting started. I did brew an oktoberfest this past Saturday with a friend, so I really have the bug now.

Thanks for letting into you community.

I have seen people use a similar setup for cold crashing and/or fermenting. Without seeing a picture, I assume it is the same style and dimensions as the ones I've seen.

I don't have any links, but I believe there are members here who have done the same thing. Try searching around; you might get some good ideas.

Cheers,

EDIT: here ya go https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f14/rockstar-cooler-fermentation-170025/

That sounds awesome. It all depends on if you can fit a carboy in it of course, but if it fits, that's sounds perfect.

is that one of those short round (docta jones docta jones!) coolers that are in convenient stores by the checkouts?

another guy on here had one for monster energy drink and it fit one bucket plus airlock perfectly.

they go for like 200-300 used online so i'd say that was a SCORE

I have not picked it up yet. It is one that held a energy drink "Rock Star". I did see a picture but unsure if it will fit carboy . I have my fingers crossed.
Does anyone know the dimensions of a 6 gallon carboy?
